The troubling legacy of Martin Luther King
Standpoint ^ | June, 2019 | David J. Garrow

Posted on 06/06/2019 8:11:10 AM PDT by Beautiful_Gracious_Skies

Newly-revealed FBI documents portray the great civil rights leader as a sexual libertine who ‘laughed’ as a forcible rape took place. [The]documents reveal the full extent of the FBI’s surveillance of the civil rights leader Dr Martin Luther King... They expose in graphic detail the FBI’s intense focus on King’s extensive extramarital sexual relationships with dozens of women, ..... The FBI’s tape recording of that criminal assault [King witnessed] exists today, resting under court seal in a National Archives vault. [ 2027]~snip~.... when they are made fully available a painful historical reckoning concerning King’s personal conduct seems inevitable.

...“King, who is married, maintains intimate relationships with at least three women, .... King’s extramarital affairs while posing as a minister of the gospel leave him highly susceptible to coercion and possible blackmail,” presumably by knowledgeable communists. ~snip~

... King’s IRS file... contained a previously unreported bombshell: Stanley Levison [CPUSA & King's attorney -most influential advisor]... arranged for King to receive $10,000 —the equivalent of $87,000 in 2019 dollars ~snip~

The FBI’s failure to highlight Levison’s remarkable munificence towards his new friend is almost as startling as its failure to similarly emphasise to Kennedy how those gifts had taken place simultaneously with Levison’s ongoing contributions to the Communist Party.

Levison [had] substantial involvement in CPUSA fundraising, along with that of his twin brother Roy Bennett, ...“1957, [they] were to become inactive in CP financial operations”....Levison and Bennett continued making personal contributions to the CP until an explicit break in March, 1963, not until now have internal Bureau documents revealed the astonishing amounts involved: [ $76,500 -the equivalent of $650,000 today.`snip~

”Some of us now- ageing King scholars “may not get there with you” come 2027, but there is no question that a profoundly painful historical reckoning and reconsideration inescapably awaits.

While the IRS files revealed extensive Communist party support and funding for Martin Luther King, the FBI failed to adequately inform Pres. Kennedy. Instead they were obsessed with documenting King's raunchy sex life which undoubtedly will be confirmed by the tapes.

Stanley Levison, MLK's most influential 'friend' who operated as King's CEO is a remarkable red- comrade. Since, he was not a wealthy man, where does the 3/4 million dollars come from to give to CPUSA or King? Moscow.... or other more secretive American communists.

In addition to Levison's devotion to King and the civil rights movement, Levison was busy shifting money both to and from communists. It is very likely that the IRS declarations were just the tip of the iceberg. It would not be surprising to learn that they have been funding Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his ilk, as well.

Over 50% of his PhD was plagiarized.

Major parts of his book Striding Towards Freedom were also plagiarized.

Most of his well-delivered speeches were written by top communist operative Stanley Levison, who later claimed, “he doesn’t do ANYTHING without our go-ahead first.”

While I believe the Commie stuff, the sex stuff looks like agitprop worthy of the also corrupt FBI IMO! I also believe MLK was a dupe for the crypto hippie-commies backed by the Kremlin. He likely didn’t really understand what a commie was!

the sex stuff looks like agitprop worthy of the also corrupt FBI IMO! I guess we'll know in 2027, unless some corrupt judge decides we can't know. Or some sympathetic archivist destroys the tapes to protect his legacy.

Both seem more likely than not to me.

Can we tear down this hideous monument now?

I mean using the same logic that the Confederate Monuments are being torn down for - he wasn't a pure person, he treated people badly. He supported sex abuse.

Time to pull down the statues of King.

Time to change the name on Bridges, Streets, Schools, etc.,

Time to correct the Public School books.

These attacks on MLK are coming from The Left, because they’ve determined he wasn’t radical enough for them.

No it’s real. There is way too much of it all over the place in multiple hotel rooms and cities. Plus King discussing these activities and relationships with his numerous mistresses on phones which results in more recordings & transcripts. Lots of names, dates, and places and an interview of one of the ‘attendees.’ There’s also photographic surveillance in public areas which document the comings and goings or lack of decency and discretion.

from page #32...

“Sullivan was seeking an expanded, more detailed indictment of King’s behaviour. The document’s recently released final pages, narrating events until March 30, 1968, suggest that the unfinished revision was abandoned following King’s assassination on April 4. Without question Sullivan and his aides had both the microphone-transmitted tape-recording, and a subsequent full transcript at hand while they were annotating their existing typescript; in 1977 Justice Department investigators would publicly attest to how their own review of both the tapes and the transcripts showed them to be genuine and accurate.

Throughout the 1960s, when no precedent for the public release of FBI documents existed or was even anticipated, Sullivan could not have imagined that his and his aides’ jottings would ever see the light of day. Similarly, they would not have had any apparent motive for their annotations to inaccurately embellish upon the actual recording and its full transcript, both of which remain under court seal and one day will confirm or disprove the FBI’s summary allegation.... photographic surveillance in public areas as well..

In 2027, that tape is scheduled for release. The audience will hear a woman’s protest while she’s being raped coupled w King’s laughter and encouragement surrounded by other female parishioners who also spectate or chime-in without intervention. Meanwhile, there’s the obtuse silence of federal agents not intervening, as well.

It’s beginning to sound like many of these ‘pastors’ were charlatans hitched to a rock-star lifestyle- trips to Hawaii, LA, NY, DC, SF, Chicago...

Whose funding all of this?? Levison & his comrades.

Segregationists did more to advance communism than all the spies the USSR had. By acting against everything America stood for, they created a fantastic opportunity for CPUSAand the Kremlin to claim that THEY were the ones who cared about rights and were not racist. Nothing could be further from the truth, but being able to constantly harp on legal inequality in America gave them opportunity they nener should have had.
The separate but equal crowd and KKK might as well have been paid by the KGB.

Remember, everything you are reading is the word of the FBI, and the result of unlawful wiretaps and was used for blackmail.
That FBI mentality has brought us to where we are today.
And they forgot to tell us about Hoover being a homo with his right hand man... also his boyfriend.

I knew eventually this day would come.

And yes, MLK was a flawed man. But then God uses flawed men for His purpose.

And the fact is, at a time when somebody had to take the arrows, MLK did just that.

And I wouldn’t trust anything from the FBI, while that snake, LBJ was in office.

And that is exactly how communism makes its inroads.

They divide and conquer from within, encouraging civil unrest and divisiveness from any and all directions.

If we were a monogynous race, they would divide by religion.

Segregation is returning through education on college campuses and elementary charter schools which are exclusively muslim which have also separated the genders.

No. The legend is not the man. The attack is not coming from the left, as they have been eerily mute about this unravelling all week. If they wanted to attack King, there’s no shortage of fodder. The Atlanta Journal finally reported, but as an attack on Garrow.

It is just the truth, revealed after they allowed him to morph into a legend in spite of many in Congress knowing the facts. Instead they chose to bury Kings files in 1977. Time ran out.

Given Garrow’s age (66) he may not live to hear the 2027 tapes so he’s going to continue to research the 54,000 newly released files. Garrow has been ignoring all these red flags for decades; now, it’s too much too ignore. Perhaps he had an epiphany of sorts and decided he would finally be totally honest and not ignore and mask the truth.

What matters is what MLK represented to the mob. He was viewed as a Christian activist advocating for non-violence and rights. People forget that MLK was subdued compared to radical elements of the time like Malcolm X, Black Panthers, Nation of Islam, etc.

King was absolutely the preferred leader of the civil rights movement. The rest would have resulted in great blood-shed. It’s a shame he would not dissociate from the communist party.

But, he needed these communist very badly to run his organization, write his speeches and provide his funding. I wonder why they chose King, as opposed to MX or the Black Panthers. Or perhaps they were funding them all simultaneously.

Stanley David Levison was a secret member of the Communist Party USA, in charge of handling the party’s finances and its “reserve fund,” while the party was secretly funded by the Kremlin.[1] He was also a top adviser to the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King.

The FBI first learned of Levison’s secret activities on behalf of the CPUSA in 1952, when brothers Jack and Morris Childs—two Communist Party functionaries who had been close to Levison since the 1940s—became FBI informants.[2]

In 1956, King’s personal assistant, the socialist (and ex-Communist) Bayard Rustin, introduced King to Levison, who quickly became King’s “most influential white counselor.” On January 10, 1957, King founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC); six months later, an FBI memo reported that a redacted source—either Jack or Morris Childs — “stated that Stanley Levison is now a CP member with no official title, who performs his CP work through mass organization activity.”[3] But the FBI still hadn’t made the link: In September, Hoover instructed agents regarding the SCLC, “In the absence of any indication that the Communist Party has attempted, or is attempting, to infiltrate this organization, you should conduct no investigation in this matter.”[4]

In 1958, James Jackson, Communist Party Secretary in charge of “Negro and Southern Affairs” said that he and Communist Party General Secretary Eugene Dennis had conferred with “the most secret and guarded people, who are in touch with, consulting with, and guiding [Martin] Luther King,” according to Jack Childs. These were “party guys, far removed from the top but [who were] playing an important role in guiding these fellows [King and associates].” Jackson thought that “this group may be important in Negro work.” On May 6, 1960, Childs reported:

“ Hunter Pitts [Jack] O’Dell is working full time in connection with the King Mass Meeting to be held in Harlem on May 17, 1960. Working closely with O’Dell are Stanley and Roy Levison [Bennett]. The CP considers [the] King meeting of the most importance and feels that it is definitely to the Party’s advantage to assign outstanding Party members to work with the [Martin] Luther King group. CP policy at the moment is to concentrate upon Martin Luther King.[5] ”
During this period, the FBI discovered that Levison was in frequent contact with KGB agent Victor Lessiovsky,[6] who was in New York under cover as special assistant to United Nations Secretary General U Thant. Lessiovsky specialized in recruiting “third world peoples” as Soviet assets[7]

On January 8, 1962, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover informed Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy that Levison was both “a close adviser” to Dr. King and “a member of the Communist Party, U.S.A.”[8] On March 6, the Attorney General ordered the FBI to wiretap Levison’s phone, and some of his conversations with King were intercepted. On June 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy met with Martin Luther King at the White House.

“ [President] Kennedy took King into the Rose Garden for a private chat. “I assume you know you’re under very close surveillance,” Kennedy said, putting his hand on King’s shoulder. Then he told King that Levison and O’Dell were communists and were under the control of the Soviet Union. “You’ve got to get rid of them,” Kennedy said. The president argued that Levison and O’Dell were still active in Communist Party affairs. Disclosure of their communist ties could weaken chances for civil rights legislation, Kennedy said. “If they shoot you down, they’ll shoot us down, too,” the president said. Bobby Kennedy later recalled it was a harsh exchange.
“The president was very firm and strong with him,” Bobby said. King was dismissive. “He sort of laughs about a lot of these things. Makes fun of it,” Bobby said. King challenged the president’s facts about O’Dell’s communist activities. “I don’t know he’s got to do all that—he’s got two jobs with me,” King shot back. Besides, King said there was no proof that Levison was a communist agent. King’s defiance clearly upset Kennedy. At one point, the president’s face turned red and he shook with anger, according to King.[9]

The President warned King that Levison was a “Kremlin agent,” telling Dr. King to get rid of him. King looked the President in the eye and promised he would. But King merely pretended to break off contact with Levison while actually continuing to confer with him through intermediaries.[10] Levison remained close to King until his assassination in 1968.
