Pritzker blames flat tax for declining population, announces $29 million Census count effort

While Illinoisans will be paying higher taxes, Gov. J.B. Pritzker says he’s going to give state lawmakers at least a $1,600 pay increase because they’re hard workers.

Pritzker said he’ll sign the budget bills being sent his way, despite the ire from taxpayers that lawmakers gave themselves a raise while doubling the state’s gas tax.

Pritzker was asked multiple times in Chicago Tuesday if he’d line-item veto more than $280,000 in lawmaker pay increases when he gets the budget that was passed in overtime session.

“Look, this was a highly negotiated budget,” Pritzker said. “We had the Republicans and Democrats coming to the table back and forth on this and so I’m going to sign the budget that we put forward.”

State Rep. Allen Skillicorn, R-East Dundee, said if the budget was highly negotiated, why was the Senate unanimous in wanting to keep their pay flat? He said in the House there were Republicans and Democrats ready to vote to freeze their pay.

“Effectively the will of the people and the legislators want to forego raises,” Skillicorn said.

...

Skillicorn said said taxpayers shouldn't have sympathy for lawmakers.

“We haven’t had a balanced budget in over a decade,” Skillicorn said. “We have over $6 billion in backed bills. Clearly the legislators haven’t done a good job.”

Illinois’ backlog of bills isn’t the only debt. Illinois also has $136 billion of unfunded pension liability, among the worst credit rating in the country, the second-highest property taxes and more problems.

Ties in rather nicely with THEIR plans. Coincidence? That's a definite 'NO"!

Just gonna get LOTS WORSE & SOON thanks to THE DEMOCRATS & RINOs.

Just WHY in hell did we sent thousands of our KIDS to Normandy & order them to run from vomit filled Higgins boats into German machine guns just to GIVE America away to anyone who can find North on a map and walk?

From the Blues Brothers original movie: “I hate Illinois Nazis.” Illinois dems have migrated into socialism...becoming Illinois Nazis.

With all this horse trading and back scratching, what plums did the Republicans bring home?

So glad that I no longer reside in IL. It wasn’t real bad in 83, but today, no way. Only reason I even set foot in the state is because we have family there. Trying to talk them into getting out.

Pritzker’s brackets includes where incomes of more than $1 million is 7.95 percent.
That bracket is on the 1st dollar...hence a flat tax.

yeah...that’s will keep them from leaving the state.

Too many governors like the census because the federal government gives money to the states, based on the population. In 2000, I emailed about three U.S. senators and six congressmen, and I told them that the Constitution doesn’t say that the federal government may give money to state or local governments. I asked them to propose a bill that would end that spending. I said that, since the federal government would need less money, the same bill should cut tax rates. I didn’t get any replies.

If Illinois taxpayers really want to stick it to IL, they ought to refuse to respond to the census.

I don’t care if they’re alien or native-born, what gives ANYONE the authority (moral, or otherwise) the ability to violate ones Rights to make ‘em (economic) slaves to another??

We have a Constitution and inalienable Rights, or we don’t.

As to your post: Might want to ‘em why they didn’t ask THEIR (grand)parents, having allowed Wilson to run rough-shod over the Constitution and they themselves voting for FDR.
