Mexico is going to cave, and it's not just the tariffs. We've got the Mexicans over a barrel on energy, and if we want, we can wipe their economy out. Without American energy imports, the Mexican economy collapses.
This actually doesn't make any sense. Mexico is awash in petroleum and natural gas. But the Mexicans just can't get it out of the ground. American petroleum engineers were critical to the early success of the Mexican oil industry. From 1918 to the late '20s, Mexico was second only to the United States in oil production, and it was number one in petroleum exports. But the bounty was not fairly shared, and an inflamed Mexican nationalism booted the American oil industry out of the country. The Mexican oil industry never recovered.
Take a look at a map of the Permian basin, the source of millions upon millions barrels of daily oil production. You'll notice that the geological formation containing this plentitude of hydrocarbons extends well into Mexico. But there is no oil development on the Mexican side of the border. They can't get to the oil without our help.

The question is not if the Mexican government can control the border, but if the Mexican government can control Mexico. So far, they have lost control of 80 % of the land. Its under cartel control. And the cartel power comes from the mighty nostrels of the likes of Michael Moore and all the other idiotic coke heads. Just guessing about Mikey. Lol.
That quote (from “There will be blood”), was the first thing I thought of, when I read of a cross-border oil field. Yes, indeed, if Mexico doesn’t drill that field, a lot of the oil will flow into the US — even without lateral cross-border drilling, which would likely violate some international laws.

President Trump has a 94% approval rating with Republicans. The phony Republicans also known as RINOS are starting to find out that Trump is not a just flash in the pan.
What you say is absolutely correct, and it’s amazing that so many don’t get it. It’s worse for China, which can in no way afford to lose its competitiveness in foreign markets even if their products have to be sold at a loss. Without exporting their goods, their market chain will collapse, idling hundreds of millions of young workers who turn on the government.

Another problem has nothing to do with securing the border, but the amount of welfare and other related assistance that we’ll give them. It used to be that if you didn’t have a sponsor who’d take financial responsibility for you, then you couldn’t get in. Well, that clearly doesn’t apply anymore - but it needs to be reimposed.
A further problem, perhaps at the heart of this issue, is “birthright citizenship.” That can be eliminated in a flash - just get a majority of both houses of Congress to pass a law and the President to sign it and, voila, no more of this nonsense. The 14th Amendment clause regarding people who were born here having equal rights to each other applied to FORMER SLAVES. It wasn’t even applied to Indians until the 1920s. So why on Earth - besides votes for Dems and cheap labor for big, multi-nationals that don’t give a rat’s ass about this country - hasn’t such a revocation of birthright citizenship passed? This one issue should, after all of the nonsense that’s gone on for the last couple of years, result in not only a big Trump victory, but a retaking of the House. If this happens, Trump MUST, MUST, MUST press Congress very hard on this. I don’t even care if he has to agree to $100 billion of additional debt-financed spending to get it, because it’ll save us far more than that before 2-3 years go by.
2) Yes, of course the Mexican government is corrupt, and always has been. So were the Spanish before them, and the Aztecs before that. What needs to be done is for someone to make those in charge understand that while the cartels are big gangs with lots of money and muscle, WE are a far larger gang with FAR larger muscle, and make it clear that we are not going to tolerate the continuation of the current situation for very long. If they don’t fix the cartel problem (and we should be willing to help, just to reduce immigration and drug importation ASAP), then we’ll fix it for them...but they won’t like it very much if we do the fixing, because that usually involves lots of broken things and dead people, that’s just how the Army and Marines roll.
FYI, I have it on good word that an Israeli private military company (i.e. mercenaries with better PR) offered one of the Mexican Presidents the option of getting rid of the cartels in about 6 months, for a fee. The offer was refused out of hand, and for obvious reasons. But the deed is possible if you have someone with the requisite intelligence, muscle and will. The US definitely has the first 2, and with Trump as POTUS I believe that we have the third one...time will tell. But it’d also be nice if the rest of the Pubbies would stop trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory - just this once.

Terms have changed. Now Trump is the Republican In Name Only while the majority of Republicans are Democrats. So RINO has become a label of honor. Ain't that some sheite?
The president of Mexico is in a really tough situation. Cartels are making a fortune off of this flood of people, if he angers them he may not have a long and happy life. If he angers President Trump it can lead to the collapse of the economy of Mexico.
In my opinion there are also bribes going in many directions so that might be another consideration.
