Senate Republicans Warn White House Against Mexico Tariffs
NYT ^ | 6/4/2019 | Catie Edmondson and Maggie Haberman

Republican senators sent the White House a sharp message on Tuesday, warning that they were opposed to President Trump’s plans to impose tariffs on Mexican imports, just hours after the president said lawmakers would be “foolish” to try to stop him.

...

“I want you to take a message back” to the White House, Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, told the attorneys, according to people familiar with the meeting. “You didn’t hear a single yes” from the Republican conference. He called the proposed tariffs a $30 billion tax hike on Texans.

If tariffs are bad for business, meaning taxes are bad for business, why are there any federal taxes at all?

I agree that trade is good. So are borders. Mexico is NOT our friend.

My thought is that this is temporary and Mexico will finally get religion or else concerning illegal immigrants:

I think there are too many folks on our side who don’t grasp what the stakes here are.

You pay zero tariff fee increases if you don’t purchase merchandise from Mexico.

Give it several months of collapsing sales. And I think Mexico will be doing it’s best to stop illegal immigration.

It also sends a message to our companies that have moved production to Mexico.

Maybe that wasn’t such a smart idea after all.

Ted’s response is typical of some Republicans. It certainly make it clear Ted would not have gone to the lengths Trump has to put an end to illegal immigration.

It’s not just cheap labor. They view every illegal as a permanent consumer. It doesn’t matter if the money they spend comes from welfare, robbery or “Earned Income Taxes Credits” so long as it passes through their cash registers, country be damned.

“I held Cruz in high esteem.”

I didn’t. Remember when he blamed Trump for the antifa violence against Trump rallies?

I’m not disappointed, I always knew he was a jackass and a tool of the establishment. Remember when he blamed Trump for the leftists mob violence against Trump supporters?

Worthless bunch of Vipers! Our side of the #DeepState refuses to have our President's back or hear the voters who put you into office. This is what we voted for. Vote these bums out! Mr. President, raise it to 25%. We've got your back. And YOU, lying Ted. So grateful for Trump's support in the election you would otherwise have lost. Kentucky, #DitchMitch! Enough of this BS group who does the Chamber's bidding! #DrainTheSwamp! Give 'em h3ll! Let's roll! Contact info: https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials/">

American citizens pay a $134,000,000,000 TAX every year to support this invasion. When does OUR bottom line count!

Those are OLD STATS from 2017! Imagine what we’re being taxed for the hordes in 2019! That’s just the money.
Lives, crime, human trafficking, drugs, noise, polution.

You can fit all of England into the state of Alabama with 4000 sq.kms left over! Much harder to do given the size of the US. Third parties are always losers because of it.

What they need are multi-millions of us arriving in their DC offices to set them straight!

Gucci (CTH) says:

"They’ve been smoked out before…and they get re-elected. The invasion will continue pretty much unabated.

Sorry, but that’s the truth. Before they even had foremen Mike’s wall up, the coyotes had another route planned. Anything short of shooting these people will be pretty much a waste of time.

The invasion and the H1Bs are having a real effect on wages. I saw the EXACT same job I did 18 months ago advertised at 50+% less wages. From $50/hr to $20/hr."

Yes and states with high minimum wages are designed to drive out legal jobs and make way for illegals. Plus sanctuary cities and states and crazy immigration laws.

We’re lost without a citizen uprising and an immigration plan that deports 10 million or so to reverse the flow.

Where is the RNC on this???? Do they have no leverage? Paging Ronna McDaniel.

No $ from the RNC unless you support President Trump.

Am I the only one suspicious of the Romney niece??
