Hongkongers gathered in record numbers, organisers said on Tuesday night, to mourn those who lost their lives in a bloody crackdown on democracy protesters in Beijings Tiananmen Square in 1989.
The Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China said well over 180,000 had attended the annual candlelight vigil, contrasting with last years 115,000. Police put the figure at 37,000 on Tuesday night and 17,000 in 2018.
Public opposition to the governments controversial extradition bill was expected to boost the turnout on the 30th anniversary of the tragedy which left hundreds, possibly more than 1,000, dead.

The business contacts I had in China at the time assured me he was fine - on the phone.
Currently, Chinese young women have Daisey Maes. The effort was a rounding success.
I have no problem with the truth, but lets recall that we essentially backed the government by extending massive trade, over fifty years of technology, and hardly raisins whimper.
Just how much credibility would we have on the subject now?
We made China the growing threat that it is. Now were suddenly going to see the light, and people would listen?
Trumps economic sanctions are squeezing China hard.
This is causing China to have to confront costly programs like the military build up
Trump is actually reducing the chance of a full blown military confrontation by his actions.
Yes. Thank you, Mr. Trump.
The story went down the rabbit hole the media created for it on purpose, because that story began to go against the myth the media was assigned to promote, the myth that western “opening” with the dictatorship in China, and “Liberalization of trade with China” would lead to political Liberalization in China.
That political Liberalization never happened and under the Communists is never going to happen, but the Tiananmen Square story will remain consigned to the media rabbit hole.
Excellent link. Thanks for posting it.
I’m sharing on my FB community page.
Sadly, the Deocrat Party admires and envies Red China, and the so-called “news” media is dominted by the Democrat Party.
I think 911 has gotten similar treatment but for different reasons. But you’re right.
There were 3000 victims at 9/11, and they too have been forgotten. we have had a muzzie in the W.H. since then and we now have muzzies in Congress.

I’ve heard some British experts claim the death toll was over 10,000.
Plenty of Repukes do as well.
“Public opposition to the governments controversial extradition bill was expected to boost the turnout on the 30th anniversary of the tragedy which left hundreds, possibly more than 1,000, dead.”
I heard a report on this on the John Batchelor Show. It seems that the Chicoms have enough control of Hong Kong’s government that they will pass this law, which will then allow the Chicoms to arrest dissenters, drag them into China proper, and then try them under their courts instead of the HK courts. The HKers are naturally afraid of this, given the repressions the Chicoms have instituted since they got HK back from the British.
I always thought HW’s response was very weak at the time, he was probably very happy that his ChiCom pals prevailed.
Don’t know if it took place on Kowloon or the Island itself...but either way that would have covered a huge portion of the city’s land area.
