Americas enemies are on notice: The president is no longer an eloquent pushover professor-president but a ruthless real estate developer and television network brawler-president whose principle weapons are blunt candor and walking away from the table.
Trump is responding to both his domestic political opponents and Americas actual enemies with the same tactics: blunt, repetitive messaging and use of the walk-off. He is sometimes rude, often full of unnecessary slashes, but always direct. (It often seems as if Trump answers more questions from reporters in a walk to the helicopter than President Barack Obama did in formal press conferences.) And there is a transparent candor what he actually is thinking at that moment combined with a willingness to walk out of a charade.
Whether its Nancy Pelosi, the Chinese trade negotiators or the North Korean dictator, Trump will do a real deal or nothing at all. And he wont be played. He will just walk away, and then he will tell his side of the story, repeatedly.
Trump has abruptly and with finality simply voided long-held shibboleths among the foreign policy establishment. He holds summits with bad guys and he doesnt care if the media thinks hes unprepared. Hes recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, which it is. He recognized the annexation of the Golan Heights as a fait accompli, which it is. He has allowed Jared Kushner to put forward a peace plan for the Middle East, but everyone in the world knows hes got Israels back.
Clarity before agreement goes the saying of my radio colleague Dennis Prager. Perhaps Trumps 2020 campaign can put that on a hat.

...this is the WaPo. There has to be something sinister going on.

That said, thanks a lot, but it will take a long time to earn my trust.
Jim probably feels very alive. He had gotten complacent, like a fat cat. Now he is scrambling trying to position Ford in this new paradigm. Think of the sense of satisfaction if he manages the transfer of production to the US and other automakers were less agile. This is opportunity if looked at correctly.
Instead of blasting Hugh, why not welcome him to the MAGA club?
Because President Trump is not a blovator like nobama is. President Trump is straight and to the point, a trait his opponents hate but his base loves.
Very good summation.
Reading the ART OF THE DEAL was my ah-ha moment during the campaign, as well. I know DJT, but even better, I know how he thinks!
