Sen. Mitt Romney warned Friday that President Donald Trumps proposed tariffs against Mexico were the wrong approach and could harm Americans more than they help curtail illegal immigration.
A tariff targeting Mexico that negatively impacts our own interests will only end in a waiting game of increasingly harmful consequence to the American people, Romney said.

Romney can't see the forest for the trees.
I didn’t go that far but I could no longer support the guy the GOP had hurled up to the stage in 2012. I supported McCain against 0 but in retrospect I along with many here on FR have regrets. I even hoped in 2008 during the primaries Mitt would win over McCain but that was now a long time ago. Once McCain had won Florida in the primaries it was a done deal. Both 0 elections were elections from hell with no great alternative. The USA was screwed no matter what.
We are already being harmed by the benefits being paid to non-citizens,you dolt!
SHUT UP MITT,, and go back to selling used cars..
Yeah, that second four years of 0 wasn’t that bad.
Wrong again.
We can take it, Mexico cannot...
What could be more harmful to America than a milty loose in the halls of power?
Mitt Romney is a dumbass. Instead of whining why doesnt he produce
alternatives? Because hes too much of an establishment GOP to actually suggest anything
Yep— now— we should be able to sequester (maybe wrong word)— put the tariff money in a specific account— for the Wall. An Executive account.
Some foreign trade/tariff beagles here at FR might be able to answer— we shouldn’t be letting it go to General Revenue— for the House to... “prevent”. Direct the Tariffs... to specific application (like obmaumao did... bypassing the Congress— and no one had a problem with it).
I voted for Bush in 2000 but didnt vote for a presidential candidate again until Trump in 2016. Once the neocons captured the Republican Party under Bush and had us invading Iraq and opening our own borders , I checked out. When Trump announced for president, calling for protection of our borders and an end to nation-building invasions abroad, I checked back in.
If McCain or Mitt had won, we never would have gotten Trump

Dear Mitt,
Thank you again for confirming that your not fit to hold elected office in this country.
“Just hours after President Trump announced he will be imposing 5% tariffs on Mexican imports over illegal immigration, Mexicos president Lopez Obrador sent Trump a letter begging for a meeting to work toward a solution. Mexicos President Lopez Obrador asks Trump to have U.S. officials meet with the Mexican foreign minister in Washington on Friday to seek a solution that benefits both nations, Reuters reported.
Absolute confirmation that Trump is doing the right thing.
Americans will either pay more for Mexican products re Trump tariffs or pay much much more to support all of the illegals who are in and still entering this country. At least tariffs have an impact on the corrupt Mexican government.
Yeah Mitt, because paying an extra 25 cents for an avocado is almost as financially devastating as supporting an entire family of illegals.
Romney is a ignorant piece of communists Democratic junk. He is not sane and harbors such dislike for Trump that he is no longer a Republican but a lying piece of junk
You say he is no longer a Republican. On the contrary, hes expressing the nearly unanimous view of Republican leaders. Its Trump whos the outlier, the Republican in name only
Stopp believing that the Republican Party is on your side. Its an illusion, fostered by their direct mail marketing people, and mouthpieces like Rush. The truth is, the GOP is on the side of the globalist big donors.
Maybe youre a billionaire who wants lots of cheap imported labor. If you arent, the GOP is not your friend. And not just Romney, the entire GOP leadership - including the majority of GOP senators
First reply. I didn’t get to post the exact first thought upon reading the title.
Another iteration of the "Trump tariffs destroy the economy" DNC talking point.
