The Daily Caller ^ | 31 May 2019 | Jason Hopkins

Only 11 individuals have been prosecuted for knowingly hiring illegal aliens in the past year - No individuals have been prosecuted in the past two months, and no companies were prosecuted in the last year - Earlier studies put the total number of undocumented aliens at around 11 million. However, more recent studies, such as the one published by Yale in 2018, places the number closer to 22 million.

Laws mean nothing if we don't have a functioning Justice department. And we don't have a functioning Justice department.

Corporate conservatives are excellent at picking and choosing what laws to enforce.

This may be because a large company hiring process involves a lot of paperwork. There are a lot of laws to comply with. Failure to comply can destroy a company. I venture to guess that few established companies knowingly hire illegal workers because the risks are huge and don’t go away once the worker has left. An audit years from now could still result in fines.

Illegals are being hired by companies and individuals who pay cash with no paperwork. No paper, no audit trail, no evidence. The illegals who are here can make a decent living dong yard work for cash. That’s because the weight of regulations and employment laws so increase the cost of an actual company employing citizens that it makes jobs like yard work unaffordable to the average American citizen. Therefore when somebody knocks on their door offering to fell a tree for ten percent of the estimate they got last year from the Giant American Tree Maintenance Company, they gladly pay.

Re: How does this compare to past administrations?

On almost every significant immigration metric, Trump's numbers are within plus or minus 10% of Barack Obama’s numbers.

Trump's one achievement - he brought UN Refugee numbers down from 80,000 per year to 30,000 per year - but 30,000 is still the highest number in the world.

And that’s why not many get busted and the owners keep hiring illegals. Does anyone think that the government wants to put someone out of business or force them to close? If the fines and penalties were ever calculated and administered to the letter of the law, they people would just declare bankruptcy, close up shop and that would be it. Then no one works.

You could however, continue to do raids and just make it uncomfortable enough, check for stolen SSNs and multiple SSNs and, basically, harass them into compliance.

Re: Illegals are being hired by companies and individuals who pay cash with no paperwork.

Hard to believe.

That essentially means that millions of USA employers require their customers to pay in cash - which seems very unlikely - or, it means the same employers are taking enormous amounts of cash out of their business accounts each week, which would be an instant flashing red light to bank examiners and the IRS.

Therein lies the problem. Our government declared a war on drugs all the way back to the Nixon era. No wall, no military...just loads and loads of $$$.

These dollars have been siphoned off to multiple countries (or so we are to believe), where it largely disappears into the accounts of corrupt dictators/despots.

What has the American citizen gotten for these $$ BILLIONS $$ of hard earned American tax dollars thrown at the war on drugs? NADA. The problem has gotten exponentially worse over the last few decades...not better.

Where is all this money? Who received it? Who measures the results of this investment? It's all a great big sham y'all.

Back to the employers. If this country's past, present, future governments were truly serious about drug smuggling, opioid deaths, human trafficking, they would build a big beautiful wall, send troopers after business owners hiring illegals and deport...deport...deport.

It's all a big ol globalist ruse folks.

Companies who hire skilled white collar workers monitor their visas closely. In one of our subsidiary plants in the midwest, we had contractor who was a Brit. He contacted our corporate office here in Michigan complaining he had just gotten a termination notice because he had not provided a renewed work visa and said the problem was due to a delay with the Feds.

We told him it was not our problem and once he gets it straightened out, to contact his HR dept. and if they still needed his services, they would rehire him.

But in another case, we had another subsidiary in Missouri where approx. 100 hourly workers never showed up for work one Friday after word got out that ICE was coming into the plant.

We had to send several people from our corp HR dept. down there to help with the hiring of new people....LOL!

When I said companies, I didn’t mean companies with a regular street presence. There are thousands of companies that are really individuals working out of their homes. Let’s say you are incorporated and you paint houses. But, business has been bad lately and you are having an issue making ends meet. A former client says he wants a new roof. You don’t have any painting work, but by virtue of networking you know where you can hire a few illegals cheap for cash. You put on an unpermitted roof, get paid cash, pay the workers and you have enough money to stay in business for a bit longer. There are signs at my local Lowe’s and Home Depot reading, “Report unlicensed contractors.” This is what those signs are there for.

Last week I was in line at Lowe’s and, apparently, not a single man in front of me spoke any English. Some were making substantial materials purchases. Are they taking those materials to a permitted, legal job? Who knows.

I was working for General Dynamics and they were going to have a floor torn out and replaced. The winning bidder showed up with a large crew of Hispanics. The guard collected their driver’s licenses as each would need to sign in. The licenses all had the correct picture and a name on them, but all the other information, address, age, etc. was identical. They even had the hologram and looked thoroughly authentic. The bid winner had to take his crew home and hire a subcontractor, one of the losing bidders, to do the job for him. I am guessing that he was one of those small “companies” who thought he could use his illegals to break into the bigtime. Not in this case.

The moment illegals try to move into the legitimate marketplace, they get stopped by the liability established companies incur by hiring them. Thus, they work in the underground economy, which is huge.

No they don’t. Too much money involved, for those hiring them, those taxing them and those getting their votes.

There are over 1.1 Million Illegal Aliens in Los Angeles alone, The city of Los Angeles themselves say that 40% of the people in Los Angeles are PAID Under the Table and working OFF the Books!!

The Franchise Tax Board and the IRS know exactly who the Employers are and REFUSE to do a damned thing about it.

I heard an employer on the radio a few weeks ago. He had some info I'd never heard before. And was frustrated by it.
The E-Verify system for checking legal status can only be used after the person has been hired.
IOW the illegal would have to be fired.
Change the system to check before hiring.
Not the only answer but would help.

Why is your company hiring illegals?

The list goes like this -
1) southern barrier;
2) require eVerify to hire;
3) end all chain migration;
4) birthright per Minor v. Happersett (plural parents);
5) end work visas;
6) 10-year moratorium on all new applications for citizenship (40 years to allow workplace automation effects on downsizing population)
7) demonstrate English proficiency to acquire citizenship and pass civics test.

Enactment of these provisions will motivate illegal aliens to self-deport.

Also consider reciprocation of the laws of the countries of origin of the illegal aliens. For example, Mexico doesn’t allow land ownership or voting to immigrants, and doesn’t honor birthright citizenship like its citizens expect from the U.S. We should offer the same deal to them.

And chirping in the Trump administration.

He could do so much more, and yet he doesn’t. This would be a matter of simply enforcing the law, wouldn’t it?

Why is your company hiring illegals?

It was a small plant in BF Missouri that basically fell under the ThyssenKrupp umbrella and they had their own hiring practices which obviously did not include requiring birth certificates when employees were hired over all the years they were in business.

It wasn't until recent years that illegal immigration suddenly became a major issue in this country.......

Illegal immigration was a major issue to Americans in this country for decades, but our elites decided the discussion was over and the flow would continue uninterrupted.

Trump won by re-opening the discussion and giving voice to the masses of Americans that never stopped caring about the illegal immigration issue. If there are verifiable signs of improvement (on illegal immigration in particular) by November 2020, he should win again.
