Disney’s Culture War: Bob Iger doesn’t help his company with boycott threats.

Few companies appeal to more disparate corners of American society than the Walt Disney Co. , so count us among the bewildered to see Disney CEO Bob Iger march to the front lines of the culture wars.

Mr. Iger told Reuters this week that it would be “very difficult” for Disney to continue filming its movie and television content in Georgia if a new state abortion law takes effect. “I think many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard. Right now we are watching it very carefully,” Mr. Iger said.

Georgia recently passed a bill banning abortion after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which is usually around six weeks of gestation. Such heartbeat bills are moving through several states, though the federal courts are likely to rule that they violate the Supreme Court’s abortion precedents. Perhaps the High Court will hear an appeal, though this week the Justices declined to hear a lower-court decision overturning an Indiana law that barred abortion based on gender, race or disability.

Mr. Iger is probably trying to please the bulk of his employees and Hollywood who lean left. Disney’s competitors at Netflix have condemned the Georgia law. But for Mr. Iger this looks like a business and political mistake of the kind he rarely makes. Disney of all companies should not want to be seen as an engine of the left’s cultural imperialism. The company’s new streaming service is pitched as “family friendly,” which presumably means customers in Macon as well as Manhattan.

Somebody on the intertubes claimed Disney is rattling their sabers about Georgia, though they are setting up shop in Saudi Arabia, is that true?

When the Disney family ran it the company was a typical coronation. When the family turned over leadership to corporate boardroom executives things began to change.

I've figured out what the left is doing.

1 - Their main concern is "climate change", and because Gaia is all that is important to them, everything they can do to save her is fair game.

2 - The main goal is to reduce the number of those nasty "people" abusing her.

3 - Homosexuality does not produce any of those "people".

4 - Abortion kills them off before they can hurt Mother Gaia.

End result - less and less people.

What a great business model - publicly supporting the murder of the very demographic (children) that makes Disney’s movies sell.

Perhaps Iger thinks that he can order wheels installed and roll Disney World and its billions of dollars worth of associated theme parks, tourist draws, and hotels out of the state. If not, Iger may recall that as a matter of ongoing business, Disney already has about three dozen lobbyists registered in Tallahassee in order to wheedle favors from the conservative Republicans who run state government.

As it is, Iger's boycott threats and bullying have probably killed off any prospect of getting Florida to enact lucrative production tax credits for the sake of reviving TV and film production in an already booming state. Instead of a deal based solely on economic value, it is now clear that Disney and Hollywood also expect a veto over Florida's social policies no matter what the public thinks. Disney's expensive production studios in Florida will continue to sit mostly idle.

Disney has been filming in:
Bolivia, where abortion is illegal
Croatia, where abortion is illegal after 11 weeks
The UAE, where abortion is illegal and BEING GAY is illegal
Disney has no problem filming in any of these locations, but now suddenly Georgia is the enemy?

Interesting comment. What if Florida passes a restrictive Abortion Law, what will Disney do then? If Iger and Ilk are to be true to the so called values then they must sell or close Disneyworld, anything less exposes their incredible Hypocrisy.
