Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex, seemed as surprised as everyone else when he admitted he agreed with a proposal put forward by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ✔ @AOC If you are a member of Congress + leave, you shouldnt be allowed to turn right around&leverage your service for a lobbyist check.
I dont think it should be legal at ALL to become a corporate lobbyist if youve served in Congress.
At minimum there should be a long wait period.
Ted Cruz ✔ @tedcruz Heres something I dont say often: on this point, I AGREE with @AOC Indeed, I have long called for a LIFETIME BAN on former Members of Congress becoming lobbyists. The Swamp would hate it, but perhaps a chance for some bipartisan cooperation?

Something is definitely going on today.
I agreed with Elizabeth Warren and now Occasional Kotex all on one day. I think were being eaten up by a black or maybe we are being absorbed by a parallel universe. Scary stuff.
Okay, that there was straight funny.
More beltway flim flam here. The ex-Congresscritters will still be hired by lobbying firms but just won’t register as “lobbyists” . The new law should be no working or sitting on the board for any company that lobbies Fedgov. And no cut outs through trade associations, either.
Democrats will quietly straighten Mz. Cow Fartz out.
She will claim this was just ‘dry humor’ that only her contraceptive sponge would fail to get.
I agree.
I suspect that her term limit is up in 2020. NYC is still ticked off at her Amazon stunt.
An asinine idea.
Term limits much better.
In his somewhat defense, he was a commoner and remained one - at least in spirit and attitude, so him ‘wanting’ it was probably for humane reasons rather than trying to garner all the votes he could...
What people don’t ‘realize’ about PDJT he showed the RINOs up for the phonies they were and -as a lot- the whole bunch of them caved on the BOScare even though they ran on it. Of course some quit but others with the job for life attitude just blew off their constituents.
PDJT is a danger to ALL pols... Like Rush tried to explain today, YOU go through everyone taking shots at you for 2 years, lies in general knowing you did nothing wrong yet they kept and keep pushing.
Who wouldn’t treat his ‘enemies’ like enemies?
His first few days in office, didn’t Trump sign an XO banning all government officials from taking jobs with lobbyist groups for 5 years?
I know I saw him sign it, I was surprised it happened in only a few days. Figured he already had it typed up and ready to go...
Maybe I misunderstood what it actually said? Or Cruz is just jumping on a chance to make it law, and long term?
A good write up here, I still don’t understand half of it, but I’ll read it a few times and maybe...
Good for them.
Cruz is an IDIOT for giving her cred about this topic.
I don’t know who was first, but it CERTAINLY WAS NOT AOC.

Isn’t that something Trump often mentioned during the campaign? Or it was that there had to be a period of several years before making the transition.
What part of the Constitution grants the government the power to tell ANYBODY they aren’t “allowed” to be a lobbyist? Lobbying is literally speech.
And I fail to see the utility of working with AOC on anything. Her utility to us is using her as a bogeyman to raise money and scare voters in swing districts. Working with her undermines that.
Cruz just rolled AOC if this bill passes. This is a DREAM conservative bill come true!! Let’s be blunt: The only credit AOC will get will come from the conservative/libertarian wing of the Republican Party. I would be TICKLED PINK to see this pill pass, and I will FULLY ACKNOWLEDGE the “BRILLIANCE” of AOC!
Unfortunately, I think that some Dem is going to get to AOC and explain how such a bill would essentially torpedo 90% of any influence their former members would have, not to mention hamper the Deep State GOP who have traditionally played interference for the globalist commie Dems.
Not when it uses the power of providing financial incentives to influence legislation. There is indeed a fine line between first amendment and illicit influence, but Ted Cruz eloquently explained the difference in how pragmatically lobbyists have breached the barriers between petitioning (legal) and colluding (very illegal). I have to dig up that speech, but I trust Cruz on the constitution far more than 99% of the population.
[[Are these signs of the end times?]]
Nah- the twilight zone
On the surface, I can agree with this too. Why not?
But it gives cover to Occasionally Coherant.
