Barr: ‘Mueller could have reached a decision on obstruction’ if he wanted to…but he didn’t
The National Sentinel ^ | 5/30/19 | Jon Dougherty

It appears that one good contradiction deserves another in the escalating back-and-forth between Attorney General William Barr and former special counsel Robert Mueller.

On Wednesday, Mueller — in a very odd and irregular press conference — said that if he and his team of Democrat-aligned lawyers and 50 FBI agents could have proved that POTUS Donald Trump never obstructed justice during their ‘Russian collusion’ witch hunt, they would have said as much in the report Mueller filed with the Justice Department following the probe.

Mind you, that’s the legal standard used in virtually every authoritarian country on the planet: Government thinks you are guilty so you are, and that’s the end of it, no proof necessary.

In America, however, our legal standard is innocent until proven guilty, something even Mueller acknowledged during his press conference…when he was talking about a dozen Russians he indicted during the probe (that he knows will never be sent to the U.S. to stand trial).

Trump is guilty of everything and even if he is proven innocent he’s still guilty according to the criminals who want to oust him in a coup.

Barr is literally lying here. That’s the one thing Mueller could not do. His job was as an investigator, not a prosecutor. It’s up to congress to indict. They’d be stupid to do so, but that’s whose choice it is and was.

PDJT should have fired Mueller and his entire cabal...
right away early.

period.
then we, the entire country, would not have had to suffer through 2 years of all this bullsheit (which even Mueller had to conclude amounted to nothing of any importance at all)

“The opinion says you cannot indict a president while he is in office, but he could’ve reached a decision as to whether it was criminal activity,” Barr added. “But he had his reasons for not doing it, which he explained and I am not going to, you know, argue about those reasons.”

Because Mueller had NO evidence of Obstruction but knowing how silly Dems are he purposefully obfuscated knowing the confused corrupt Dems would twist that nothing into something. Mueller is a disgrace and inserted his personal politics into what should not have been a political exercise, for that, he's NOT ethical. Sorry Lindsey et al

“Barr is literally lying here.”

An utterly inane statement. Did you even read the article?

Nowhere does Barr say anything about “Mueller indicting Trump” Barr stated that Mueller could have “concluded” that Trump was guilty of 1 or more “criminal offenses” and stated so in his report. It would then be passed on to Congress for deliberation on impeachment.

“PDJT should have fired Mueller and his entire cabal...”

Trump could not fire Mueller:

“The Special Counsel may be disciplined or removed from office only by the personal action of the Attorney General. The Attorney General may remove a Special Counsel for misconduct, dereliction of duty, incapacity, conflict of interest, or for other good cause, including violation of Departmental policies. The Attorney General shall inform the Special Counsel in writing of the specific reason for his or her removal.”

Mueller is a coward. He desperately wanted to find Trump guilty but he knew he had absolutely no legal basis and he didn’t have the courage to face the fallout from acting extra-legally. So he did all he could do by muddying the waters while trying to keep himself clear. He’s without ethics or honor.

After reading a transcript of the Mueller statement, it seemed pretty bland.

I think people are distorting what Mueller said to make the Democrat’s case and conservatives are responding to those distortions, not the actual statement.

Wrong. Mueller OBVIOUSLY was appointed to see if the president committed a crime. He could have reached that conclusion without being the one deciding what to do about it. Barr would then decide whether to indict or inform Congress, etc.

If Mueller was not supposed to reach a conclusion regarding the sufficiency of the evidence, then he reported to Barr and Rosenstein, who made that decision.

The one thing he wasn’t appointed to do was to encourage Congress to conduct an impeachment investigation.

He didn’t reach a conclusion because as stated in his report, Trump had all kinds of defenses to the ridiculous things which they were reviewing, like firing Comey and making statements at press conferences.

Thank you. I was just about to respond to that lying comment but you just summarized it perfectly. In other words, Barr is calling Mueller a coward because he knows there was nothing that Trump did he could say is criminal that would stand up in court. END OF STORY.

“The Attorney General may remove a Special Counsel for misconduct, dereliction of duty, incapacity, conflict of interest, or for other good cause, including violation of Departmental policies.”

I suggest changing “may” to ‘shall’.

If his role wasn’t as a prosecutor, how is it his office had a Grand Jury at their disposal and indicted 30+ Russians who will of course never be prosecuted in the US, and what about Paul Manafort? It’s up to Congress to impeach if they so choose; it’s up to the Senate to convict if they so choose.

You obviously didn’t see the clip or read the transcript. Barr didn’t say anything about “indicting” the President. He said that on the issue of obstruction, Mueller could have stated whether or not they found criminal conduct. He did not do that. He left that to Barr.

Just as in Mueller’s recent impeachment-promoting 8 minute speech he called a press conference, Mueller said it was possible Trump committed a crime. he REFUSED to say it was possible Trump did not commit a crime, which is also true.

Barr is literally truthful here. Mueller could have stated whether or not he found criminal activity of obstruction among the Trump campaign and White House. Mueller said as much about collusion, but he refused to say it about obstruction.

The Mueller Report and the recent dog and pony show were both designed to help the Rats impeach the president.
