CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A concealed carry holder shot and critically wounded someone who approached him with a gun Monday in Little Village on the Southwest Side.
He was walking into an apartment alley about 4:15 p.m. when a man approached him in the 2500 block of South California Avenue and took out a handgun, Chicago police said.
The man, 25, took out his own gun and shot the 20-year-old in his head, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
The older man was uninjured and showed officers a valid firearms ownership card and concealed carry license, police said.
Area Central detectives are investigating.

The Chicago Thuggery and those of the same ilk from many other cities who forbid or suppress private ownership and carry of weapons believe that they can get an illegal gun and run rampant over law abiding citizens. This moron found out that is not always true. I suspect that the head shot neutralized the threat, although a double tap to the head might have eliminated any doubt.

It could well change things. Center of mass shots = stop the threat.
Head shots (IF a larger center of mass is also available) = kill the SOB.

You make a good point, and that would be investigated I’m sure - but so would any shot. That said, in the microseconds one has to pull his weapon, aim and shoot under panic and pressure of the situation, who’s to say he actually tried to shoot him in the head? Maybe he did, I dunno. But with fight or flight adrenaline pumping as long as he was acting in bona fide fear for his life in self defense it shouldn’t matter.
You were being sarcastic but there sure is something odd in referring to the shooter as the “older man”. He was only 25. Sheesh. Older than the alleged perp, relatively but not an older man generally. I guess the author was trying to avoid “prejudicial” adjectives like “perp”, “suspect”, “assailant”, “victim” etc. In a case like this which person is the victim?
Self defense is NOT murder, even the Bible agrees on this point.
And don’t forget his child support payments to several of his missus’s.
