Acting Texas Secretary of State David Whitley (R) resigned on Monday after his office wrongly questioned the U.S. citizenship of nearly 100,000 people, The Houston Chronicle reported.

The embattled official who oversaw the state’s elections penned a resignation letter to Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who nominated him for the job in December.

“Working alongside the employees in the secretary of state’s office, county election officials, and representatives of our #1 trading partner, Mexico, has been my distinct honor and privilege,” Whitley wrote in the letter obtained by the newspaper. “And to have your trust in doing so goes beyond what I ever dreamed of as a kid growing up in a small South Texas community.”

Whitley was facing a Monday deadline to be confirmed by the Texas Senate or lose his job. The letter was sent shortly before the state Senate adjourned until 2021, The Chronicle reported.

Abbott will ned to name a replacement who will likely not be confirmed until after the 2020 election.

And yet to wrongly & willfully allow illegals to register to vote is cheered by the left .

But voting by illegals is still wrong. /s

Which means there will not be any effort to ensure Mexicans are not voting in Texas in 2020.

What did he botch? I would rather have my citizenship questioned than see the further deterioration of my vote.

Citizenship status staying private is a civil right.

The enfranchisement of your vote is none of your concern.

He should have known that TX Democrats count on their illegal bloc of voters and would not let him ax them from the rolls. There are at least twice as many as the paltry 100,00 he claimed, SanAntonio alone having thousands. His mistake was not having current information on the newly naturalized, a much smaller number, but that was blasted all over the Democrat media inTexas as deligitimizing the entire list and and a example of GOP voter suppression.

The next TX Sec.of State will lie low and let the Democrats register thousands more that are currently invading the border until they turn Texas Democrat, and all of the USA will then have the joys of Socialism.

Bad headline. The guy didn’t do his job, and now he wants to resign? Every state’s voter rolls must be purged of illegal aliens. EVERY voter’s citizenship must be questioned, and checked. Why is this guy belly-aching about questioning 100,000 people’s citizenship? BECAUSE HE’S COMPLICIT, that’s why.

“...not properly vetted and included thousands of citizens...”

HOW MANY THOUSANDS?
If two thousand or ten thousand, that would STILL mean TENS OF THOUSANDS OF ILLEGALS!

Logic, people.
We can admit mistakes, then fix them.
Why must we roll over & surrender every time?
