About one in five Canadian adolescents uses cannabis and its recent legalization across the country warrants investigation into the consequence of this use on the developing brain.
Cannabis use was linked to impairments in working memory and inhibitory control, which is required for self-control. Cannabis use was also linked to deficits in memory recall and perceptual reasoning. Alcohol use was not linked to impairments in these cognitive functions, suggesting cannabis could have more long-term effects than alcohol.
Adolescent exposure to THC induces changes in specific a region of the brain called the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and in a brain circuit, the mesolimbic pathway, that closely resemble the abnormalities observed in schizophrenia. Furthermore, adolescent THC exposure also caused affective and cognitive abnormalities including deficits in social interactions, memory processing and anxiety regulation.

Schizophrenics are 300-500% more likely to smoke tobacco. This correlarion is FAR stronger than for pot yet nobody is claiming tobacco CAUSED it
The study referred to in my post doesn’t seem to be studying schizophrenia.
A highschool pal of mine who used to deal weed realized one day that he’d been high every single day for over a year. Him and his buddies used to smoke a joint upon waking. Smoke another at the bus stop. Smoke another upon arriving at school. Another at lunch. And then several more before the end of the day. He decided to go a full day without weed. Every single person he saw that day asked him in tones of alarm what was wrong. I’ll never forget how strangely unfamiliar his faced looked that day. Freaked him out.
Same stretch that correlation of those things equals causation.
To prove damage you must have multiple controlled twin studies showing direct damage like with any other drug you find on the pharmacy shelf. To date this had not happened with cannabis and all these “pot correlation” studies are meainginless.
When your family cuts you off because of lifelong drug use, that is a premenant problem.
“So your defense of adolescent marijuana use is to point out the bad effects of alcohol?”
It’s not a defense but the fact that alcohol is sold everywhere including car rest areas proves the “your safety” intent of the government is complete and utter horsecrap.
Add to that fact that cannabis has many more known medical uses than alcohol.
Pot prohibition is a money grab and nothing more
The legalization by the applauding left gives them a mass that’s docile and unwilling to go against their demands
Where are the anti smoking Nazis? This stuff is SMOKED. Nobody is linking this to lung cancer. Are there warnings on pot packaging. Crickets!
Thanks to states without prohibition, it no longer needs to be smoked.
It can be converted into pure oil that can be eaten or vaporized. No smell, smoke or carcinogens. Some states require the oils be independently tested and exactly dosed.
God Bless these states for standing up to Fedzilla and doing what was right
And, as always, follow the money (grants, funding).
Is a certain conclusion drawn simply based upon a desire for more money?
/rhetorical question
"We've drawn some interesting conclusions but we really need to research
it more thoroughly. Could we get another $400,000 to study it some more?"
/Canadian neuroscientist impression
But who ever said that smoking causes schizophrenia? No one that I know of.
Whereas smoking cannabis clearly can cause people to appear disoriented, lazy, and stupid, which would cause some of the life effects/results mentioned in the article I referred to.
These guys know a lot about it...

People who are mentally ill or with unusual brain structure are simply more likely to abuse substances
It is a lot like alcohol in the sense that for some people “it just isn’t your drug.”
There is a reason that it alcohol is not in the hands of minors legally, and that is an issue that should be addressed with marijuana.
I have seen a number of previously high function middle and upper middle class kids whose life trajectories changed to very limited models. Currently in their mid twenties to late thirties they are more or less in a perpetual adolescent state.
Sorry I disagree. Alcohol overused can kill. Mj cannot kill. But mj’s touted medical benefits are way, way over exaggerated. Plenty of people drink a beer or a glass of win or small amt of booze occaisionally with little to no physical or mental harm.
MJ’s effect is much strong on the brain and mind, and there is no “little” dose of mj.
So the harm is not comparable.
I used to drink a lot and smoked mj and advocate neither. Pure sobriety is the sane and safe way to go through life.
Every aspect of my life has been improved immensely since I began using cannabis daily in early 2015.

Cannabis today continues to be a great asset to me.

I continue to use it daily with great benefit & I continue to thrive.
Don’t be like me and smoke pot as a kid.
It will surely result in a lifetime of misery.
Living proof that it does not happen seems way more convincing that some Wellness Report like the one you show.
How can you refute decades of actual case study in favor of something as bizarre as this publication.
Classic case of people believing something and then finding material that supports their belief...and someone profiting by feeding that belief.
Since booze isn’t good for people, let’s add mj which also isn’t good for people so even more people can be drugged up, stupid and crazy. Many violent crimes, the majority, are by people on drugs.
Any medicinal benefits from mj are from products made from it, not mj itself.
Pushing drugs is not a good thing. I live in a state that legalized it and it’s caused harm. More teenagers and young people using, more anyone using because now it’s legal, more car accidents, more crime and more illegal grows. I’ve detailed this on other threads. Colorado, same thing. CA, same thing. Another lie was that if mj was legalized, there would be less use of the “harder” drugs like meth and heroin. Another lie. When mj is legalized, the use of all drugs goes up. More druggies, more crime, more losers, more homeless.
MJ is a dangerous drug and people should not be encouraged to use it by legalizing it.
Human civilization does not prosper when huge numbers of the population are drugged out. Or drunk.
