Growing up high: Neurobiological consequences of adolescent cannabis use
science daily ^ | May 26, 2019 | Canadian Association for Neuroscience

Posted on 05/27/2019 6:36:09 PM PDT by Mount Athos

About one in five Canadian adolescents uses cannabis and its recent legalization across the country warrants investigation into the consequence of this use on the developing brain.

Cannabis use was linked to impairments in working memory and inhibitory control, which is required for self-control. Cannabis use was also linked to deficits in memory recall and perceptual reasoning. Alcohol use was not linked to impairments in these cognitive functions, suggesting cannabis could have more long-term effects than alcohol.

Adolescent exposure to THC induces changes in specific a region of the brain called the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and in a brain circuit, the mesolimbic pathway, that closely resemble the abnormalities observed in schizophrenia. Furthermore, adolescent THC exposure also caused affective and cognitive abnormalities including deficits in social interactions, memory processing and anxiety regulation.

Those of us who have lived long can see the damage in people all around us from both drugs and casual sex.

Are you quoting from that 2002 article again?

No - which part of "the article" did you not understand? Click the link and do a search, lazy.

The evidence is mounting

More claims from you with no supporting evidence supplied. Dog bites man.

you are so quick to dismiss the growing body of experimental evidence that shows pretty definitely that marijuana use is not benign.

I've never claimed it's benign and have stated the opposite; shame on you for such low tactics.

You couldn’t be more wrong. Marijuana may offer some pleasure to its users but physicians have been well aware of its detrimental neuropsychiatric and other bad physiological outcomes including diminished spermatogenesis. Use it if you like but at least be aware of the downside especially to adolescents.

Nope. I can look at situations objectively. And pot is not good.

Never did LSD, coke, crack, or meth, thank God. I was lucky

And potency these days is higher.

And liquor is more potent than beer. What of it?

And pot is not good.

Nor alcohol, nor tobacco. What ought we conclude from these facts?

Oh oh.....

You’ll be hearing from the pot dealers union.

One of them threatened to sue me.

Apparently you cannot look at situations objectively.

What you did here was look at a situation with total ignorance, and then post a bunch of nonsense.

Seriously, it’s fine if you think it’s bad. Never go near it, all is good.

But don’t think you are going to fool anyone who knows even the slightest actual information about it with that silly goblittygook you posted up there regardless of how many other people, who also know nothing about it, say they agree with you.

So do I. But take my word, you should never trust their judgment over the long term and if you know your dentist, anesthesiologist or surgeon likes to get high, you would be wise to avoid their services.

It’s not me I am worried about. I had my foolishness period in my life. It is the kids. I thank God that my son didn’t use. I attribute that to my wife. I have wisdom of experiencing it myself so that counts.

Lots of peer pressure and it is more available now than ever before. I thank God!

Sometimes I read comments on FR and think that I grew up in a bubble. As far as I know, even the wildest guys in my class didn’t do drugs. I heard rumors about a couple of girls, but alcohol and cigarettes were it as far as I knew for almost everyone from the football team captain to the biggest partier in the school.

Perhaps as Gen Xers Nancy Reagan’s “Just say no” campaign made a difference? Either way, articles like this make me grateful I never, ever messed with any kind of drugs.

There are many people who burn out like there are lots of alcoholics.

There are quite a few variables to an outcome.

I’ve provided before, more than once.

The research is out there. Just don’t have time at the moment and my files are on a couple of thumb drives and not on my laptop. Very easy to find by searches.
