Never Alone

Bible in a Year: 2 Chronicles 4–6; John 10:24–42

He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. John 14:16–17 While writing a Bible guide for pastors in Indonesia, a writer friend grew fascinated with that nation’s culture of togetherness. Called gotong royong—meaning “mutual assistance”—the concept is practiced in villages, where neighbors may work together to repair someone’s roof or rebuild a bridge or path. In cities too my friend said, “People always go places with someone else—to a doctor’s appointment, for example. It’s the cultural norm. So you’re never alone.”

Worldwide, believers in Jesus rejoice in knowing we also are never alone. Our constant and forever companion is the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. Far more than a loyal friend, the Spirit of God is given to every follower of Christ by our heavenly Father to “help you and be with you forever” (John 14:16).

Jesus promised God’s Spirit would come after His own time on Earth ended. “I will not leave you as orphans,” Jesus said (v. 18). Instead, the Holy Spirit—“the Spirit of Truth” who “lives with you and will be in you”—indwells each of us who receives Christ as Savior (v. 17).

The Holy Spirit is our Helper, Comforter, Encourager, and Counselor—a constant companion in a world where loneliness can afflict even connected people. May we forever abide in His comforting love and help.

By Patricia Raybon

Reflect & Pray

As a believer in Christ, how does it encourage you to know that the Holy Spirit lives inside of you? How have you neglected God’s comfort?

Jesus promised we will always have companionship with the Holy Spirit, who never leaves us.

Howdy, Kathy.

Everyone must have been busy with picnics and such this evening. Third, as late as it was when I managed to get here? LOL
Happy to accept it. Thanks!

Howdy, LUV.

I hope you had a nice day and that it wasn’t nearly as hot as it was here.

Hey, radu! It was pretty warm, but it was probably not as uncomfortable as you were. I didn’t go out much to find out. LOL! We did have some breeze to cool things a bit.

Sorry it was so hot...and muggy....there. I remember those days and they are so uncomfortable even with AC.

Be glad you didn’t have our humidity to go along with your heat. We had a nice breeze but it didn’t help today. Wet breeze doesn’t evaporate sweat. LOL

Just a couple more days of this, then they SAY we’ll get a little break. But it’ll be back in the 90s again by Saturday. *sigh*

Good evening, radu...how was the museum? Did you get to give any tours?

I had to go out for a couple things and stumbled over almost the very night stand and dresser I’ve been trying to get online. Since AJ has been here for weeks, we know that the aero bed is good for short term, but not long term. A couple weeks ago he bought a real bed, but it is also time for some real furniture. Peg and I talked about it at the beginning and decided we just wanted it ready for guests. I’ve found what I want, but NO ONE will ship to Alaska. GRRR!!

But today, I stumbled upon what is pretty close and 25% off. So I got the night stand and dresser (had to go to a second store) and now they are in the car for AJ to bring up and we will put them together. We will have a real guest room. LOL!

I am glad. High humidity is one of the most uncomfortable things to deal with. No WAY to get cooled off. If we have a breeze, we’re good to go. I hope you get that break soon!
