Having had a Renault inflicted on me as a young man, all I can say is this can’t be good fo Fiat (Fix It Again Tony) Chrysler.

well, considering that Chrysler Corp was gifted to Fiat; we have only ourselves to thank. Thanks again, Baraq.

Haven’t seen a Renault vehicle here in the USA in decades. I think they made a cheapo econobox back in the 70’s called Le Car. Le piece of crap.

Not all of them. Renault’s yes, but Renault owns a significant chunk of Nissan and Mitsubishi as well. I wonder if those marques com with the FCA deal as well.

They are ok as long as you can afford to have a mechanic and set of tools with you whenever you are driving.

Reading a book, Travels in Siberia, about an American writer making the trip back in the early 2000’s.

His Russian guides bought an old Renault van for the trip as, “It is more reliable than a Lada”.

A common theme throughout the book is the vehicle breaking down.

Fiat (28th) and Chrysler (30th) did not fare well in the 2018 JD Power Dependability Survey (out of 30 automakers).

Renault wasn't among the 30.

if they successfully merge to a few base car platforms, they can cut a serious amount of cash.

For us in the US - it really depends if there will continue to invest in the Jeep lineup

The Renault wasn’t anywhere near as bad in that regard as the Peugeot it replaced.

VWbug

"This is the new Volkswagen, Fuhrer."
"Where is the steering wheel?"
"Mmmm, there seems to be a bug, Fuhrer."
"A Volkswagen bug?  Heh heh. Ulric,
take this nitwit out and shoot him."

I had a jewel of a late 50’s British made Morris Oxford at one point in my misspent youth. Approaching a stop light I stepped on the brake which promptly went to the floor. Then pulled emergency brake handle which came off in my hand. Finally...and successfully..I opened the door and dragged my foot to a stop. Sold it shortly thereafter.

totally anecdotal, as are most of the comments so far, but the only Renault ever in my circle of friends was one that needed lots of attention, too.

Renault is right up there with the most reliable car ever - the Land Rover ...

As one wag said, if reliability was the most important factor in car buying, the Land Rover would not exist.

Having had a Renault inflicted on me as a young man....

You,too? I had a new Renault in 1964 and it developed practically all the things that can go wrong (slight exaggeration---but after 1-2 years did you ever have to buy a heater that was the same cost as a major engine part?) Took about 6 weeks in freezing MI weather for the heater to get shipped from France.

Had to pay for a lube job for the steering assembly every 3-4 months or it would seize up, make you pull with all your muscle power to steer and sound like a rusty WWII ship pulling into dry dock.

Engine kept freezing and taking 15 minutes of struggle to get it started, so I had to remember to put on old blanket on the engine each night. True story. Yes, antifreeze was fresh and full.

Several Renaults were in a list of worst cars ever made and they said Renault will not be trusted again by buyers Buk are they still making them? Or just engines and trucks in Europe?

My new slogan today: Just say no to Renault.

When I got to Japan in 1958 the taxicabs were mostly little Renaults. You could pack 6 or 8 GIs into one from Yokohama back to the base. Don’t know if they’re any good now. A while back, Mack trucks was in bed with Renault. The trucks really sucked. GROSSLY under-powered. This merger idea makes me nervous.
