In a national email, the National Association for Gun Rights announced that the Trump administration just made an anti-gunner the next ATF Director.
Chuck Canterbury is the presumptive nominee at the ATF based on an announcement made on Friday.
According to the NAGR President Dudley Brown, Canterbury has a long history of publicly supporting and endorsing anti-gun policies, anti-gun Supreme Court nominees, and anti-gun high ranking government officials.
As President of the National Fraternal Order of Police, Canterbury has supported anti-gun Supreme Court Justices like Sonia Sotomayor and former Attorney General Eric Holder, who ran the notorious Fast and Furious gun running program.
On top of that, Canterbury supported the expansion of the federal governments gun registration schemes.
Brown reported that Canterburys FOP is currently lobbying AGAINST Constitutional Carry, even though the vast majority of law enforcement officers support the right to carry.
In Browns view, this is troubling news.
Ultimately the no compromise leader called for an ATF Director who wants to tear down gun control, not expand it.
Brown then promised to keep NAGR members informed of everything that goes on during this process.

hehehehehehehehe. Another fine deeps state pick. Maybe someone needs to tell PDJT that to drain the swamp, you gotta let the shiite out not reroute it into another part of it.
lol they're all in it together. What ever would they do should 50% of the country start carrying concealed?
I was about to post that, and you beat me to it.
Dudleys more about enriching Dudley rather than enriching our second amendment rights.
Not saying that this article is wrong about anything, but when NAGR is involved.....
So...wait for the trial or skip right to the necktie party?
[...]
Mr. Canterbury, of South Carolina, has worked as president of the National FOP since 2003 and has served on its executive board for more than two decades.
He also has been an outspoken opponent of efforts by gun-control advocates such as Michael Bloomberg to gain access to confidential law-enforcement data on firearms traces, for use in lawsuits against the firearms industry and for research. The ATF compiles the records when tracing firearms in response to requests from other law-enforcement agencies.

I thought I smelled a rat. What do we know about Canterbury? I can’t see Trump appointing some anti-gun puke to that ATF job.
Political Report: One On One With Chuck Canterbury, National President, Fraternal Order Of Police June 16, 2011Cox: "Chuck, it`s great to visit with you. The NRA has been honored to work directly with you and the FOP on issues like the Tiahrt Amendment, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, microstamping and countless others. Our members very much appreciate your support."
Canterbury: "Chris, it`s not only a pleasure; it`s a duty for us at FOP to support policies that protect our nation`s law enforcement officersbut also protect the rights of law-abiding citizens."
Cox: "On the Tiahrt Amendment, you showed particular courage. Michael Bloomberg organized his anti-gun mayors to pressure their police chiefs into supporting the release of sensitive firearms trace data. Many big city police chiefs gave in to that. But you spoke up forcefully, explaining that releasing the data would jeopardize investigations and endanger undercover officers. Bloomberg called the FOP a `fringe group` for telling the truth about that."
Canterbury: "If standing up for officer safety makes the FOP a fringe group, then so be it. The real fringe group is the reckless politicians who interfere with law enforcement. I can`t just stand by while politicians grandstand over our issues without understanding the real-world implications."
Cox: "You`ve also spent a lot of time reminding members of Congress that FOP members are gun owners who support the Second Amendment. In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, you said `I take a back seat to no one in my reverence for the Second Amendment.`"
Canterbury: "That`s correct. I meant it then and I mean it now. Our members and your members share many of the same beliefs about guns and crime. Many department chiefs are political, and they go with the anti-gun line, especially in the big cities. But our members in the rank and file know the reality on the streets."
Cox: "That`s exactly what NRA members in law enforcement are always telling me. And that`s why our legislative agendas often come together."
Canterbury: "Yes. And we also appreciate that the NRA cares about law enforcement concerns. When the media began reporting on massive layoffs of police officers in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the NRA weighed in, reminding the mayor that fewer cops mean more criminals on the streets. The NRA also supported FOP on passing the Law Enforcement Officers` Safety Act, and your support was critical to its passage."
Cox: "I know our members appreciate what your members do to keep our communities safe. And I`m proud of the relationship we have on legislative issues."
Canterbury: "It`s a great relationship, and I hope to maintain it for a long time. This Congress is already debating issues that would have an impact on both our memberships, and I look forward to seeing you on Capitol Hill so we can continue working together."
I cannot believe that Pres. Trump would nominate an anti-gun rights person.
I was thinking of pinging you because I know you know more about the trouble he’s caused than I do. :)
Found that SAF article first though.
That SAF article and the brief interview with Chris Cox (post #26) were all I could find so far. I was hoping for something from GOA but haven’t found anything.
At this point I accept nothing negative about Trump without a thorough vetting.
So...
NAGR,,,,
IS Crap!
Carry on with the Neck Tie Party.
You could swing a dead cat here on Free Republic and find a better 2A person than this tool.
Thinking this one stinks.
Here's an idea: Float these background checks right HERE on FR. Man, would we churn them up and set them right !
I don’t know who this guy is and don’t know anything about NAGR but they are dead on about the FOP.
Always has been anti gun and no friend of ours.
Who the heck gives an organization the acronym “NAGR”???
The same ones who chose John Bolton.
Not us.
[[Who the heck gives an organization the acronym NAGR???]]
I see what you did there.
Yes. Dudley is executive director of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, was arrested in 1988 on substance abuse charges and has appeared to have libertarian leanings.
Dudley Brown has no credibility with me.
Always with hyperbole, always with fundraising.
Lots of complaints about NAGR buggering up the works.
Another one of the Trumps administration DC establishment pukes nominations. Trump ought to fire who ever recommended this guy.
