CNN laid off almost all of its health care coverage division Tuesday, in a move the network called a crazy rumor less than three weeks ago.
While Dr. Sanjay Gupta is expected to keep his job, most of the rest of the division, based out of Atlanta, were released.
Fox News reported:
TVNewser, a media watchdog site started by CNNs Brian Stelter, managed to get confirmation from the network just in time for a Friday news dump.
As part of the normal course of business, our newsgathering team made a small restructure earlier this week that ultimately impacts 6-7 employees within CNNs Health Unit, a CNN spokesperson told TVNewsers A.J. Katz.
Many health department staffers met with human resources on Tuesday. Katz noted that correspondent Elizabeth Cohen is also safe.
Katz told Fox News that three divisionsCNN Health, CNN Climate, and the networks Atlanta-based Southeast Bureauwill be combined into one. (RELATED: CNN Wrote Over 20 Articles On Covington Catholic Students, Ignores Philly Muslim Children Chanting About Chopping Off Heads)
Employees are shocked, Fox News reported, because CNN Health is considered successful and the network had just firmly denied layoff rumors earlier this month. In fact, executive vice president Allison Gollust told Fox News on May 7 that there were no mass layoffs in the works.
I have no idea where that crazy rumor came from, she said. We have recently offered a voluntary buyout option for employees, and just over 100 people voluntarily decided to take it. Thats it. We have nearly 4,000 people at CNN
and around 100 of them exercised the option for a program that was offered. Thats it. Those are the facts.

CNN has 4,000 staff?? Butt-buddies hiring other butt-buddies.
My doctor’s office used to run CNN medical in the waiting room. Then I went in one day to see it was on RT! That’s Russian tv news. LOL It was much more international news than I’ve seen on any American channel.
They can’t survive the year at this pace with this management approach.
Good!
CNN sold off all of its satellite trucks in 2017. Thats when I knew CNN was is SERIOUS trouble. This is just another step down that same road.
Shocking....who is going to do the research, script writing and translating medical and health stories for the “Rent-a-Doc”?
Hahaha. Any business owner who wants his business to succeed would never hire any of these worthless liars and scum bums.
“...6-7...”?
There should be have been hundreds laid-off.

It’s so true... CNN generates fake news!
Did the treatment not work? Maybe under their health care plan there was no support for those in a terminal situation.
Did Delirium set in? Not uncommon for a high-risk population such as CNN employees to experience delirium in these situations.
Hopefully CNN held an intervention to assist with end of the health group to address emotional and existential needs.
As an old-school newspaperman, retired now these 10 years, I have often had the same thought.
Or as the late Andrew Breitbart once told journalists: “It’s not your business model that sucks, it’s you that sucks.”
So CNN even lies to its own people, why is this not surprising?
The professionalism of RT puts the Communist media to shame. Too bad they put “Russia” in their name, if they didn’t they would already be the #2 cable news channel.
“...unexpectedly”
Bwaa-hahaha.
Shelter is a joke
Conrad Black, in his book on President Trump, wrote that Wolf Blitzer was "the greediest employee I ever had, and among thousands of journalists, that was a signal distinction." p. 133
I’m pretty sure I had “BlueJay Guppie” treat me for something once early in his Medical career.
He must have been an intern at UM medical? I was surprised because he spoke normal English.
More good news for this month and in time for the Memorial Day Weekend.
