Hans von Spakovsky:Dems support cover-up by opposing Trump disclosure order on campaign surveillance
Fox News ^ | May 24, 2019 | Hans A. von Spakovsky

Acting in the interests of transparency and justice, President Trump took exactly the right action Thursday night when he gave Attorney General William Barr new authority to disclose information dealing with what Barr has called “spying” on the Trump election campaign in 2016.

The president issued a memorandum authorizing Barr to “declassify, downgrade, or direct the declassification or downgrading” of any information relevant to “intelligence activities” connected to the “2016 Presidential election.”

President Trump’s action is long overdue and should be welcomed by everyone who advocates more government disclosure about its activities – including journalists, who are always seeking such information.

Unfortunately, many Democrats and journalists immediately attacked the president for his new action favoring disclosure – in the same week they embraced the claim by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that Trump is engaged in a “cover-up” to hide information from the public.

~snip~

This is why it was so bizarre when Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., accused Trump and the attorney general in a tweet of conspiring to “weaponize law enforcement and classified information against their political enemies. The cover-up has entered a new and dangerous phase.”

Cover-up? Does Schiff understand the meaning of the term?

Schiff’s cover-up charge makes no sense. The Trump memo calls for uncovering more information – not covering anything up. A presidential order to declassify and make public all information connected to a particular investigation is the exact opposite of a cover-up.

And it’s ironic that some of the same Democrats demanding the release of the full unredacted Mueller report – including legally protected information presented to grand juries and classified national security information – are now attacking the president for wanting to release more information about the origins of the Mueller problem.

If anyone can be accused of a cover-up it is Schiff...

Considering the situation, that any other candidate winning,in 2016, Republican or Democrat, it is likely the Republic would be over, I lean toward the explanation of at least Divine Nudge rather than “we got lucky.” Reagan coming at such a point and then Trump at the necessary time seems too much to hope for from Lady Luck.

“...I lean toward the explanation of at least Divine Nudge rather than “we got lucky.”

Oh, I see where our misunderstanding arose:

When I said “we got lucky”, I didn’t mean it in the sense that we “rolled the dice”. I just meant that we were very fortunate, which, in my book, does not preclude a Divine Nudge.

All that being said i don't think the Repubic is saved or can be saved for the long term. The problem is the Education system. Hollywood and MSM can be overcome an/or ignored. The schools cannot. We have several generations of people in the Republic now who have no knowledge of History and no connection with the Enlightenment or with even normal reasoning. Almost half of everybody is ready to believe whatever sounds good and something that takes individual work and accountability doesn't sound good. We cannot fix Education with the passing of a law or an EO. The Teachers colleges are every bit as rotten as the public and most private schools.

It is similar but much grander than the situation in Israel and Gaza, Judea and Samaria. All the arab children have been taught in their schools that Jews and Christians are spawn of Satan and must be killed or enslaved and Israel must be wiped out along with all Jews everywhere in the world. There is no way there can ever be any amicable agreement between the Israel-area arabs and Israel.

I agree.

School curriculums are being systematically stripped of any thinking skills that could possibly result in clarity and unvarnished truth.

Instead of teaching students to observe and interact with reality, they push their social agendas and whatever “thinking” justifies it.

They are discrediting reason itself. I’ve actually had my grandchildren tell me I’m being too logical - like it’s a bad thing. I was telling them one burp from Mt St Helens emitted a million times the CO2 mankind has ever been the cause of.... I could see the gears of what passes for logic turning in their little heads...

1) man-made global warming is real
2) people who deny it are wrong
3) grandpa is using logic to be wrong
ERGO: grandpa is too logical
