Would it not be easier
In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?

Democracies give power to the people does anyone hold the people responsible for this power? Who would be this "anyone" ?

“But what about oversight of the people who put them in office?”
GFY... that is the mentality of the authoritarian. It’s one way deal. We oversee government and give them limited power to accomplish a few tasks WE deep worthy.
You don’t “oversee” us....you bastards.

" . . . democracy has faced a crisis of legitimacy when the people have not been held accountable for their exercise of sovereignty . . . "
What the hell is THAT supposed to mean? As Tucker Carlson (or was it Mark Steyn?) said last night, "In today's world, the elites are rising up against the masses," and that's what leads to this kind of drivel from the WaPo.

Peaceful coexistence with these people is not possible. We need to stop pretending that it is.

Precisely. Just what is he driving at?
To: DFG
“Is it unreasonable to suggest that politicians who introduce flagrantly unconstitutional measures, such as a ban on immigrants based on religious criteria, or a law that would prosecute women for having a miscarriage or seeking an abortion in another state, face formal charges of introducing unlawful legislation? Likewise, perhaps if every single elected or appointed official had to submit to an audit at the hands of regular citizens (even, say, disclosing their tax returns), the propensity to corruption would be checked.”
And he wants people to confront and go after people who vote for people he doesn’t like such as Rep King or Trump.

...our democracy begins with taking responsibility for votes cast at the ballot box each year. Exactly right!!
Conservative federal taxpayers should not have to bailout socialist dem states for their mistakes.

Events hold us accountable for our choices.
Events, and God.
Nobody else is qualified.

At the heart of it the author wants to prosecute Trump after he leaves office. I’ll bet the author would really like to punish all those who voted for/support Trump.

First of all, that is not blatantly unconstitutional. Secondly, Obama lost several 9-0 decisions in the Supreme Court. In fact, I think he had a worse record in the Supreme Court than any previous president. How's that for "blatantly unconstitutional"?

Of course the "people" are held accountable for their mistakes. With Obongo we suffered through eight years of economic decay and growth of the authoritarian deep state for the sin of electing him.
These cheerleaders for despots deserve to lose their jobs and be tossed out like Obongo did to hundreds of thousands of American workers with his Marxist plans of destruction for our nation and our social fabric.

Don’t have to be a genius to see where the CrapPost is going with this ...
they’re trying to justify illegal fishing expeditions like the hunt for Trump’s tax returns
Their excuse? “We must hold our leaders accountable”
(where was this attitude when Benghazi happened??)
