With Gen Z we have to show them rather than just talking about it, said Michelle Jordan, an assistant vice president of HR development and college recruiting.
Move over, millennials. The next generation is just starting to make its way into the workforce, and employers are taking note.
The first wave of Generation Z, those born after 1996 and more than 60 million strong, will start moving from college to career this year. These newest workers come from the first post-Sept. 11 generation, one thats grown up with social media and smartphones, watched their parents go through the housing bust and a deep recession, and come of age amid political polarization and soaring college debt. Its little wonder they are pegged as anxiety-ridden, but experts say they are also independent, pragmatic and super-connected.

Despite your observations, which I don’t quibble with, 90%+ of Hindu Indians in this country vote Democrat.
I think I am offering the explanation as to why.
I am not sure where we disagree.
Also historically haven’t most of the immigrant groups started out voting as Rats? Or at least for the party in power that can hand out the most goodies!
He said it was hard for him so it would be impossible for farmers. We have all been saying there needs to be a program for migrant farm workers. Bus them in to the farm, farmer is responsible for any who work for them, make them clearly identifiable and they go home after the harvest. No families.
Indians bring so much to us like donuts, slurpies and brain surgeons what a crazy mix.
No we haven’t all, because that’s not true.
Let farms both automate and make their jobs more attractive to workers. (E.g., for the seasonal crop picking, let college students come and live and work there for a semester while they also do a course or two online.)
Dairy farmers routinely hire illegals now and provide marginal conditions, whereas a decent environment would appeal to local high school and college students and regular year-round American workers.
It is disgusting what we have done to farming in the US because of our use of migrants—both legal and illegal.
vindaloo!
Papadums!
and a lager!
I have no problem with younger bosses- only the stupid ones.
I am very well paid for what I do, and I enjoy doing it. I stayed out of management because I know I would suck at it- and in most cases, I’m being paid more than the managers...
So, I just do my job well, and the bad ones who think they know everything often learn soon enough that they don’t. And when they call me back to fix what they couldn’t do, I charge more money.
Old Monk!
Gen Z is Gen X’s children
Two of my kids are in this generation.”
One is 23, the other 19. Both live independently and work full time. One is a truck driver, the other a astronautical engineer. Both earn money commensurate with their job descriptions.
Neither have any particular generational pathologies.
One pathology they both have in an eversion to debt. The truck driver has no debt. The engineer has a small amount of school debt. He lives very cheap and has paid off almost all of his college debt within a year of graduating.
Yep.
2 of my kids graduated college in 2018. They and most of their peers seem to be very bright and willing to work. Exceptions? Obviously. Just like every class from every year since the beginning of time. Including mine. Including yours.
Stay off drugs. Show up on time and ready to work. Pay attention and keep learning. That will put you ahead of 90% of the people you’re competing with. Same as its been for 50 years.
[He was quite open about it being a certain “hate whitey” element in it because that is how the American education system indoctrinated them and there were a few encounters with yahoos who look at them funny, tell them they don’t belong here, etc. It doesn’t happen often, but once is enough to capture many of them.]
William Goldman, the 2 time Oscar-winning screenwriter, once said “nobody knows anything”. By that, he meant no one knows why particular movies become audience favorites, whereas the screenplays he was convinced were winners sank without a trace. That kind of applies to politics, too. Who would have thought a century ago that the South would become a solidly Republican stronghold? So all is not lost. Nixon dreamed up a Southern strategy. An Asian strategy would target racial quotas the way Nixon went after busing. (Of course, by allowing the creation of a Hispanic census category, Nixon built the foundation of another racial/ethnic quota that dogs us today).
Chinese are chinese.
Indian are Indian.
If you are stupid to think differently, so be it.
