ELMIRA, N.Y. — Lawmakers in New York are pushing legislation that could make it a crime to text and walk at the same time.

A new bill proposed by the state senate would make it illegal for people to cross the street while staring at their cell phones, according to WABC.

The news outlet reports there’s no clear evidence indicating that the use of personal electronics while walking causes accidents, but New York lawmakers are still considering fines for using them.

Fines can range between $50 to $150 depending on the number of offenses.

It was predicted about 25 years ago that many people would abandon unlivable cities for the exurbs. I did so 10 years ago and it was the best move of my life.

Meanwhile my brother in Seattle never locks his car. That’s because he has to park outside and break-ins are so common he doesn’t want the bad guys to break his windows.

Well if they pass a law, that will put and end to that practice for sure. Also, eating, drinking(non alcohol) smoking, putting on makeup, adjusting the radio or any other distraction like where we are. Pretty wide range of possible offending deeds when it comes to “distracted driving”.

It’s started in NYC too from what I hear. Magnet cities for immigrants end up with their third-world qualities.

“Is it also illegal in New York to chew gum while walking?”

Or poop on the sidewalk?

A woman texting, with headphones in Portland lost a leg when she slowly jogged into the path of a train. She sued, won $15 million. The Oregonian has the video of the whole thing.

Millenial: Doctor, I’addicted to texting.

Doctor: I’m sorry. You’ll never walk again.

Anyone who's ever been to New York knows there's no need for such a law.Nobody there has ever mastered the technique.

I’m of two minds over this one. I don’t like new laws and being fined and taxed for stupid stuff as an excuse for pols to raise and spend money.

On the other hand I have seen walking texters trip, nearly hit or even get hit, or have no situational awareness as to the people and mothers with baby carriages that have to skirt or dodge them as they walk texting away. They are a hazard!

So I see no downside of liberals fining mostly liberal moron texters acting in an unsafe manner. There is no constitutional threat here!
