Former FBI Director James Comey ripped into Attorney General William Barr on Friday, accusing him of “sliming his own department” after Barr said that government power was used “to spy on American citizens.”
“The AG should stop sliming his own Department,” Comey tweeted. “If there are bad facts, show us, or search for them professionally and then tell us what you found.”
“An AG must act like the leader of the Department of Justice, an organization based on truth,” he said. “Donald Trump has enough spokespeople.”
Comey did not specify what comments he was reacting to, but the tweet came after Barr gave interviews to Fox News and The Wall Street Journal about the investigation into the origins of the Russia investigation, that he has tapped U.S. Attorney John Durham to lead.
Barr told Fox News that the investigation will cover the time period between Election Day and Inauguration Day, and he told Fox News’ Bill Hemmer that “some very strange developments” took place during that period.
Barr said the country must know “exactly what happened” with counterintelligence activities conducted during the 2016 election -- and he is determined to get to the bottom of the case.
“The first step is to find out exactly what happened, and we're trying to get our arms around that, getting all the relevant information from the various agencies and starting to talk to some of the people that have information,” Barr told Hemmer.

I’m familiar with this breed of narcissist; his self-delusion of righteousness, authority, and invincibility come from both his physical stature and resultant power positions. He’s gone out of his way to protect the status quo and has likely and finally realized that his valiant effort have gone unrewarded. He projects as a means of emotional defense that also, strategically, lays the groundwork for his future indignant cries of partisan persecution. Just wait! He’ll not suffer the clown role for others when crap hits the fan! It’s not who he is.
Comey is nakedly invoking the Deep State Manifesto:
1) Assume the DoJ and FBI can do no wrong; shut out and destroy all evidence of imperfection and wrongdoing.
2) The top officer’s job is to protect his department.
3) Bureaucratic, political, and careerist “Higher Loyalty” outranks loyalty to the US Constitution, basic fairness, the integrity of the vote, equal treatment under the law, etc.
4) Even assessing whether the DoJ and FBI are less than perfect is intolerable and treasonous—to the bureaucracy.
That anyone with the values that Comey expresses was FBI Director is downright scary, as if freedom was in the shower and Norman Bates just burst into the room.

I would think that most attorneys would advise a client not to disparage the prosecutor before the trial.

I think this lies at the heart of Comey’s mindset. Barr is guilty of not ‘protecting his own’ and the status quo. How dare they put someone in the AG job that doesn’t respect the PTB fraternity (Powers that be)!
He does so now he is employing his Hail Mary tactics. He's going down like the dog that he is.
