I was in a full parking structure yesterday, minding my own business, walking to my gas guzzling SUV when a fairly attractive 30 something female walked out from a blind spot behind a pickup with a camper and ran right into me. I am 6’1”, 210 pounds, she was 5’4-6” and slender. I immediately jumped back and said “Excuse me.” I could tell her first instinct was to scream. I froze and asked if she would please proceed on her way on her intended direction. She put her nose up and left. It occurred to me that this could be an ambush so I made sure access to Mr. Smith was OK, did a pocket inventory, and proceeded to my vehicle. Of course she was on her phone with her full attention. Could of been a bad situation for yours truly.
She sounds like a dizzy lib, and kudos to you for limiting your encounter IT. Give me a mature woman any day of the week.
You described a regular daily occurrence with me. Phone in face gals routinely wander around my office space. I give them no quarter except to glare at them and tell them to look where they’re going, please.
Course men are guilty too. Had one guy drop his phone cause he was too busy to notice me.
It could have been a bad situation for you, certainly.
What she is too dense, unaware, or whatever to realize is that it could have been an even worse situation for her. Walking through a parking structure with your attention on your phone and no situational awareness whatsoever is stupid. Instead of sticking her nose up she should have thanked you, profusely, and learned from the experience.
I am a night security guard at a city owned marina which got trashed pretty bad by the hurricane last October. The big lights were all out and I was instructed that the marina was closed to the public at night and to tell folks that came out there that it was closed and they needed to leave. I once approached a woman parked in a Prius the way I had developed to make such approaches. She was a skinny middle-aged bleached blonde. Her windows were open and her motor was running. She was intent on her smartphone or tablet. I walked around in front of the car so that she would see me in the headlights and had one finger pointing to the word” Security” on my shirt. She did not respond at all. I flicked my very powerful flashlight at her and she did not notice. I finally approached her open window and said as politely as I could, “Excuse me ma’am...” Her head popped up. Her eyes got inordinately hugely open. she shrieked and jammed her shifter into reverse with her foot cramming the accelerator to the floor. She skidded in an arc to turn around continuing to shriek. She jammed it into D and drove out of there with her foot still to the floor. I could hear her continuing to shriek as she sped out of the marina and up the hill. I could hear her still as she blew through the stop sign a block out of the marina. I wished I could be wherever she was going to to hear what she had to tell whoever was there. I expected a policeman to visit me later but none came.
