President Donald Trump has become irritated at an emerging impression his hawkish national security advisers are marching him closer to war with Iran despite his isolationist tendencies, according to people familiar with the matter.
Instead, Trump is signaling his intent to speak with the Iranians as tensions rise in the Persian Gulf, and his national security team has taken steps they hope could facilitate a new diplomatic opening.
The likelihood of such an opening appears slim. But Trump has raised concern with the heightened rhetoric, believing a large-scale military intervention with Iran would be devastating to him politically, people familiar with the situation said. The President has told members of his team that starting a new conflict would amount to breaking his campaign promise to wind down foreign entanglements. And he's chafed at suggestions his aides, led by national security adviser John Bolton, are somehow leading him to war.

Jim Acosta sucks so bad he doesn’t even get top propagandist billing at CNN.
#FakeNews
The only item on my profile page fits Bolton to a T:
I voted for Donald Trump because I was tired of Ivy League globalist pr!cks running this nation's foreign policy. Anyone who still thinks the invasion of Iraq was a good idea shouldn't even be allowed to clean the toilets in the White House.
If I wanted a Sunni Muslim in the White House, I would have voted for Yeb! Bush.
You got that right, brother. No more neocon wars.
I for one hope ‘something ‘ happens and we DO pull the trigger. Enough of the crapolla with Iran all the time . It’s time to settle it ,once and for all . Iran’s got it coming . It’s oppressed people cannot overturn the mullahs . It’s time to take them out .
No quarter .
This is classic Good Cop-Bad Cop routine. Trump wants to get the Iranians to come to the table; Bolton & the neocons want war.
Folks, this is CNN!
I'm counting on Trump to be smarter than that.
You want Trump surrounded by yes-men?
He even hired Larry Kudlow who was adamantly opposed to tariffs, and look at the wonderful stand that Trump made against kudlow’s wishes.
Kudlow can advise the President and live with the results. And that will be the end of it.
My fear is that Bolton would actively work to undermine him. I don't trust Bolton as far as I can throw him.
Exactly. The Saudis and the Iranians have been at each other's throats for a thousand years and they would love for the US to get rid of their traditional enemy. And never forget who funded 9/11 and where most of the hijackers came from.
“Obama never took tough measures. Unless you call giving Iran 150 Billion Dollars tough love.”
But what about the time he drew that “Red line in the Sand” and dared Syria to cross it! ....oh wait....
ha ha.
CNN again.
says it all.
Oh it’s CNN and the car full of clowns. Never mind.
However, about seven well-placed nukes from the middle east to Iran and Pakistan would be a big step towards that... If any of them thinks about retaliation, Mecca becomes the next fireworks show...
CNN = Fake News
You'd never know that from reading your sheep-bleating posts day after day after day.
DJT does business like this. He listens to all his advisors and he alone makes the choice of what to do. There is always conflict around the Trump inner circle, thats the way he works. That the media does not understand is not surprising.
You dont think the President knows that?
