I hope some of our 'troops' read this article. They might find it interesting... I am not sure when this aircraft will make it into service. Certainly the US Navy, as well as the US Army, could use this aircraft, especially as a platform for SQQ-28...
Certainly, a nice platform for the US Coast Guard as well.
Getting there faster is important based on the mission...

I have doubts about either one of those being as good as a Blackhak.

That is a very good looking machine. Yup, I know looks aren’t everything, but that machine appears to want to fly. And fly well.

Ever heard and Osprey flying with the rotors at a 45 degree tilt? Sounds like a Chinook.

Not according to Michael Durant, the pilot of Nightstalker Super Six-Four, which was one of the Blackhawks shot down in Somalia. He credited the durability of the aircraft with saving his life.

Okay, I confess that I am a bit behind the curve with regard to the development of vertical envelopment aircraft (other than the application of that theory via the one-way trip in a Herky Bird or Starlifter).
But it looks to me like we already have a tilt-rotor troop mover aircraft in production (The V-22). So I have two questions: 1)What does the Valor do that the Osprey cannot do? And 2)Why not revamp the Osprey to meet the new requirements?
Thanks ahead of time for your considered responses.

Once. A pair of V-22s made a flyover at a college football game that I was working.

And 2)Why not revamp the Osprey to meet the new requirements? It can be summed up in one word: "Size." The V-22 Osprey is a much larger aircraft than the V-280 Valor or any of the other Future Vertical Lift contenders.
The FVL program is to develop a family of airframes to replace the UH-60 Blackhawk and AH-64 Apache with new aircraft that are much faster, and have better high altitude and hot weather performance. (We are planning for new aircraft to refight the Afghan war.)

I loved the Huey (1,100+ hrs.), it needed to evolve but not into the maintenance nightmare that is the 60 (300+ hrs.).
