(CNSNews.com) - "If they want to do a review, they can do a review, but it's a total distraction," Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) said Tuesday, following reports that Attorney General William Barr has asked the U.S. Attorney in Connecticut to look into the origins of the FBI's Trump-Russia investigation.
Khanna said James Baker, the former general counsel for the FBI, has made it clear the Trump-Russia investigation "had nothing to do with the (Steele) dossier.
"It frankly had nothing to do with the Trump campaign," Khanna said. "It was on actionable intelligence from foreign ambassadors concerned that our democracy was under threat from foreign interference.
"And guess what, they turned out to be correct. Bob Mueller concluded that there was sweeping and systematic interference from the Russians. Jim Baker and the FBI should be applauded for the counterintelligence investigation that they undertook. The entire country should celebrate the FBI's work. And this is a total distraction that Bill Barr is trying to undertake."
The inspector general of the Justice Department is almost done with his review of FBI procedures and actions, and Khanna said inspectors-general are "typically very, very capable."
"I don't think there's any need for an additional review. I think Bill Barr is being political. He's trying to draw a false moral equivalence. There is clear evidence of misconduct by the president. And what Bill Barr is saying is no, there was misconduct by the FBI. The American people aren't going to buy it."
Host Kate Boldun noted, "You think with this move, since the I.G.'s review is still under way, you think that exposes the attorney general of this being a purely political move?"
"I do," Khanna responded. "I think especially when you look at the pattern of conduct, his usurping the Mueller report and giving a selective summary. His line to house and senate committees. Now he's asking for a review about the investigators. I mean, it's like you're asking for a review of the people who caught the bad guys.
"The people are smart in this country. They're going to see through this. What we really need is for Bob Mueller to testify in front of Congress, to tell the facts, and let the American people understand the gravity of the interference that took place."

Ahhhh, I see. So, the foreign ambassador he is talking about is Alexander Downer. Let's see...the same Alexander Downer who, as Foreign Minister in 2003 was accused of not passing on intelligence reports he received before the 2002 Bali bombings in which over 200 people were killed. He countered that the warnings were not specific enough to warrant their further release to the Australian public.
So, the warnings were not specific enough for THAT to pass on, but...a single encounter, in which Downer in what appears to have been a frantic backtracking as the spotlight of attention got too hot for him, told a newspaper (The Australian in a 28 April 2018 interview) that, "nothing Papadopoulos said in their meeting indicated Trump himself had been conspiring with the Russians to collect information on Hillary Clinton."
Information about terrorists who murdered 200+ people was NOT significant enought to pass along, but an innocuous conversation with a low level campaign functionary in a bar WAS significant enough to pass along, THAT information really made him quake in his shoes.
So Alexander Downer, who had been Foreign Minister, was on the board of an absolute spook company (Hakluyt & Company) and as a former ambassador KNEW the ins and outs of intelligence channels, and instead of submitting this "important" information about his meeting with Papadopoulos to the Intelligence community for Five Eyes evaluation and transmission through the proper channels, deliberately went around it (because he would have been LAUGHED out of the room if he had gone through proper intelligence channels) and instead, brought the "important" information to Elizabeth Dibble, the political hack deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassy in London, who took it to the FBI.
THAT "foreign ambassador"?
It is too difficult to discern if this person Khanna is outright stupid, ideological, or duplicitous, but I suspect all three.
