Jim Cramer: You Better Strap Yourself In

All I can say is you better strap yourself in because, the next six months I expect to see tariffs on the other $300 billion we import from China because it's become clear that President Trump has decided that the U.S. simply shouldn't do business with China and if you do you are going to have to pay the price.

There's also threats that they will cut off our liquefied natural gas exports to them.

Now, here's what's pretty ironic about this list. The vast preponderance of these goods are made by farmers. The farmers, the president said, are going to get checks for the best year they ever had with China. Those goods will go elsewhere anyway so the farmers get a real payday. Could be a big win for them. Of course. They always seem to win. Jeffersonian instincts? No, more about primaries and two senators per all states, especially farm states.

A couple of these are funny: DVRs, cameras and gloves? Our manufacturing base for all of those were wiped out years ago, with the Chinese being instrumental in the destruction of the glove industry.

Liquefied natural gas? That's like Boeing planes: get in line. There is multiple year demand for our natural gas. We spoke with both Charif Souki, the founder of our export industry, and Tom Farrell, from Dominion Energy (D) -- strong stock there -- which exports natural gas and both have told us there is simply nothing to be had for years and years and years. So that's a real non-starter.

So where does it put us? I think that the president's view, the one says "there will be nobody left in China to do business with. Very bad for China, very good for the USA," scares investors who are panicking ou

What we’ll see is a lot of companies moving out of China. Other southeast Asian countries suddenly become much more attractive.

How stupid would we have to be to continue to let the Chinese “mine” half a trillion dollars a year to build a military that will challenge us with our own gd money?

Worth a read...good facts...

Looks like Trump is right..

Basically the only thing we sell them is farm products...

except Boeing , Caterpillar and Apple

It’s a rather astounding proposition because China is such a huge trading partner, but the president has decided that our side doesn’t get hurt nearly as much as their side, and the damage will be contained to a very few companies, namely A, B and C: Apple (AAPL) , Boeing (BA) and Caterpillar (CAT) , all of which count on China’s market for growth.

While no one was paying attention, in 2017, President Trump made an trip to Asia that was quite significant.

He followed up by sending Ivanka to India.

He met with the leaders of S Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and Vietnam.

His agenda was trade negotiations.

The result is that we now have these countries eager to increase their business with us, on terms negotiated by the President, and take over the manufacture and sale of cheap crap to export. Still better, they can compete with each other.

In other words, President Trump has rendered China economically irrelevant.

As dems were, and continue to scream about how the tariffs will make things cost more, the President was playing the long game.

Art of the Deal.

It was said over a decade ago that we couldn’t even produce the boots we’d need to fight a war. People used to care about the nation losing its self-sufficiency.

I guess it’s a good thing we don’t need boots to fight a trade war.

The farmers, the president said, are going to get checks for the best year they ever had with China.

Both Parties are now dominated by socialists.

"Does Cramer get anything right?"

He doesn't even matched stopped clock stats. I don't watch CNBC any more but when I did I was always amazed at the "experts" they had on that had zero history of being right.

Another was Jim Rogers. I remember in 2017 his call for the "worst crash in our lifetime".

What I can't figure is it they're just that clueless or if they're pushing an agenda for their own benefit.

Sure do wish President Trump would focus on that. Tell folks not to buy Chinese goods. Stop the global war mongering. Bring the Koreas together, and the South Koreans could bring their manufacturing skills and prosperity to NK. Don't let our "friends" stir things up when peace could happen. Stop the regime change stuff.

I'm all for standing up to China on trade and bringing jobs back to the US. The Darth Vader warmongering empire stuff is not what I voted for.

I’m sure there are millions of Indians who would be only too happy to work in the factiories that make stuff to sell to us currently located in China.

And if India and Indonesia start building factories to make stuff the Chinese currently make Boeing and Caterpillar will sell their stuff in India and Indonesia. The market is here. We can start making stuff as well (again). If China wants to challenge us let them but they are going to have to do it without our help.

True but that's a multi-year solution. Short term things should be...interesting.
