Gilead will be offering free pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in a new partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The pharmaceutical company will be donating 2.4 million bottles of the HIV prevention drug Truvada, which it manufactures, to 200,000 uninsured individuals each year for 11 years.
Alex Azar, the secretary of Health and Human Services, discussed the partnership Thursday in a Twitter thread.
"The agreement will provide pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to treat individuals who are at risk for HIV and who are uninsured, including in the states and counties identified as priority areas in @POTUS’s plan to #EndHIVEpidemic in America," Azar stated.

The amount of money the world spends on this preventable disease makes me puke.
The other thing I’ve researched is actually rates of transmission for heterosexual sex (man-woman [remember?]) They are almost nonexistent.

I first heard about this drug in the past 3-6 months because of countless ads on Hulu. I went to Wikipedia to read about this and it costs $8,000-14,000 per year to take in the US.
It is also a 92% effectiveness in trials and perhaps practice.
I have to say that I can think of no behavior I engage in would I lay out that kind of cash for that kind of failure expectation.
To put it in perspective blackjack is about an 89% loser.
I don’t spend money on blackjack and I can’t believe that people would place that kind of financial bet on their lives with that kind of failure rate.
The “bugchasers” won’t take it. Becoming HIV positive has become a sort of twisted status symbol among some sections of the gay community.

The magazine article states that the cost of this “prevention” drug is $2,000/month. And that one of the causes of HIV is “racism”. Gee, I wonder why HIV didn’t exist back in the Jim Crow days? Glad that all of us heteros can now make a meaningful contribution to the eradication of this scourge on humanity.
Meanwhile they’ll still have to buy poppers, X, pot, and other party drugs with “their own stash”.
I think you're misunderstanding, there's only a literal handful of people on it for prevention that have "failed" and all data suggests they were already infected (but it wasn't detectable yet) when they started or we taking 'holidays' and not taking it daily as directed. Truvada is a combo drug but alone can't keep HIV from replicating.
The downside is the drug has side effects, usually intestinal problems, that not everybody can't deal with so they'll stop taking it for prevention.
Recently I've known two black male college students who "knew better" that ended up HIV+. The lies told in the gay community and impulsiveness probably doesn't help them avoid infection. These kids don't remember the AIDS crisis of the 80s. In their lives, HIV has always been treatable.
Truvada is a very good idea, because HIV is no joke. It's considered a "chronic disease," like diabetes, but the combo treatment medications can be even more expensive.
One of the guys is on something called Triumeq that costs upwards of $33,000 per year although, again, there's a co-pay program from the drug maker. They're basically giving this stuff away.
Everyone has benefited from the immunological research related to HIV. For example, there have been cased of using modified HIV to battle leukemia in patients not responding well enough to chemotherapy.
It's going to take a cultural change in the "gay community" which seems "truvada slut" shaming and no fear of HIV. That community, like the black community, has been feeding itself lies, peddled by the Left, that keep them ignorant, hostage to old fears and engaged in self-sabotaging behaviors.
In the USA, they only are infected with HIV, which ages them 15 years, and presumably, kills them 15 years early.
There’s a gay guy I work with fools around like a pig but been taking his meds regularly for 20 years.
He’s HIV positive for 20 years.
