Former President Jimmy Carter is recovering at a Georgia hospital after he underwent surgery to repair a broken hip suffered in a fall at his home Monday morning.
A statement from the Atlanta-based Carter Center said the 94-year-old Carter fell while leaving to go turkey hunting and underwent successful surgery to repair his hip at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus.

I’ll save my invective for his funeral. Don’t want to use it up. Feel better, Jimmy;-)
My mother fractured her upper hip last year age 92. She needs her walker now and I think its permanent. She gets around ok on it but its never the same for the elderly with these type injuries and recovery .
Die you old bastard.
As evil (yes, evil), corrupt, and useless as Careter is, he just keeps going. Maybe he made a deal with the devil?
That is usually the beginning of the end.
I for one hope he pulls through okay. No, I was never a fan of his presidency.
My mother is just getting out of rehab this Friday after breaking her hip on March 25th (neck of left femur). She is 102. Already can walk some, but isnt totally back mentally yet. Prayers for Mr. Carters recovery and I know my mom, Gigi, would gladly accept them as well.
no not quite. there is a rare and often fatal complication. of a long bone fracture called fat embolism that can occur. However immobility after a fracture can and does lead to pneumonia.. this is. it special to a fracture prolonged immobility of any kind can lead to pneumonia
metastatic melanoma which is what he had can in a not insignificant number of cases can be cured or at least long term survival can be achieved if one responds to a classic drug called immune checkpoint inhibitors.
It is still somewhat of a mystery what all is involved in the seemingly inevitable deterioration of these patients. It was like my mothers dementia worsened by 80% and after six weeks has probably recovered 50%. The surgery was totally without complications (titanium rod amazingly inserted through bandage-size incision), and youve get to suspect lingering effects of general anesthesia. The nurses tell me that disorientation following the total change in surroundings and people is a big part of it. My mother hasnt needed many pain killers other than acetaminophen so that isnt it. Best wishes to your mother.
...Although I have inverse respect for him and his (cough, cough) "acomplishments"...
...I do wish Carter well and hope for a thorough recovery.
.
My Mother broke her hip at 91 and she died 5 weeks later.
I do recall when I broke my femur...had to do lung tests every four hours for four days until the hospital/doctor was convinced I was not coming down with pneumonia... had the operation the next (fifth) day.
With really old people, a broken hip generally leads to pneumonia and death.
Jimmuh had a good run. At age 94 he lived long enough to see the day when he was not considered the worst president ever.
im glad you got it repaired. they were probably looking for fat emboli although dont know exactly what they were thinking. it is a devastating injury
(Some broken hips happen first due to brittle bones, and then the person falls. People nearby have heard the crack before the fall.)
“That is usually the beginning of the end.”
EXACTLY RIGHT. Four years ago, my 89 year old Mom fell and broke her hip. She was dead five weeks later.
2nd worst President of my lifetime.
