Ammo Stockpiling: Why You Can Never Have Too Much ~ Rebuttal

-In a recent article on AmmoLand News, a case was presented as to why stockpiling of more than a few hundred rounds of ammunition was unnecessary.
It was an interesting take, but much too limited, in my experience. In the end, the authors put in a disclaimer: stockpile as much as you want.
The self-imposed limitations of the presentation were this: They only considered four reasons to stockpile ammunition. They limited the scenarios applicable to those reasons.
Here is a quick critique of the four reasons they listed not to stockpile ammunition:
- 1. Self-Defense not unreasonable, in that a couple of hundred rounds fired in self-defense, will likely mean you will eventually catch a round yourself.
- 2. Hunting not unjustified in most areas. In some areas, more will be needed, simply for pest control. It is not unreasonable for Australian pest controllers to fire hundreds of rounds a day. Pest control may be significant if you need to protect your family food supply.
- 3. Militia actions A completely unreasonable take on possible militia actions. The idea of a militia force *only* and *solely* fighting a full-up modern military force is one of the least likely scenarios. Even in that case, lots of ammunition is much better than only a little ammunition.
- 4. Ammo barter I disagree entirely with the author(s) on this. Ammunition makes excellent barter material, especially commonly available rounds such as .22 LR and 12 gauge. One of the reasons this is so in the United States is half the population has access to firearms already.

LOL, luckily I don’t fit in with that one!

I’ve always understood that the standard was to have 1000 rounds of ammo per caliber firearm that you have. Some would say 1000 rounds per firearm, but most of mine are all the same caliber so my goal is to always have 1000 of the one-offs, and 2K of 9MM. You rotate old to new and are pretty much ready for anything.

Grandpa, if the day comes that we have to fight to keep (or restore), our freedom, you’ll still be in this fight. Take heart and read about Samuel Whittenmore, who, at age 80, killed three British Redcoats at the Battles of Lexington and Concord:

I would throw in 20 gauge with that.

Have multiple caches even some on the edge of property well hidden in case you are driven from your land you can sneak back to your border and retrieve it under cover of night
That is a good idea!

Fascinating article. It shows just how far we have gone, without many even realizing It. Terrifying, actually.

I really appreciate your comment;
Fascinating article. It shows just how far we have gone, without many even realizing It. Terrifying, actually.
I am constantly surprised that everything knows that the liberal progressive democrats are up to no good. But no one has sat down and connected the dots just how close they are to achieving tyranny.
This article is about the only one that maps it out clearly and disturbingly.

Gee, after reading this I think I’ll add a 1000 rounds of everything today.
The people I associate with clearly recognize that the communists are a deadly threat to us and are prepped to put up a fight. Of all the various scenarios for militia level struggle though, I think house to house gun confiscation is very low. Red States would secede from a communist run government which tore up the constitution and civil war would ensue.
I’m still betting on an EMP attack on the grid as the most likely scenario. It is a cheap way to kill 90% of all Americans fairly quickly. Tribes of like minded would naturally band together.
All the waitresses at my favorite bars would be invited to join my tribe for protection, food and water in return for breeding privileges. It’a a deal that they can’t refuse.

Yea, my buddy reloads. He keeps the powder under his bed to keep it cool. Reloading is a very valuable skill.

I read that the other day. It dovetails quite nicely with my tagline.

Armies march on their stomachs... Insurgents fill their stomachs with food taken as needed from other parties in the area. That taking process usually involves arms, and at least the perception of the people with the food of the willingness of the insurgents to use their ammo.
Of course governments take food at gunpoint all the time as well. Ask any Venezuelan or North Korean farmer.

I cant imagine trading any ammo, particularly in a SHTF scenario. I have heard that in tough situations cigarettes and hard liquor are much better for bartering from someone with personal knowledge of such a situation. Other items useful for recreation could also be relevant.

Whittemore joined the battle in Arlington Massachusetts when he single handedly set up an ambush to attack a group of retreating British soldiers. Three shots (1 by musket, two by pistol) each killing a British soldier. Then he launched a one man charge using his sword.
The British shot him, and bayoneted him, and left him for dead. He was found by fellow patriot militia men trying to reload his musket.
Whittemore lived another 18 years, and should stand as an example to everyone of extreme bravery and dedication to freedom and our nation.
I recommend to visitors in the Boston area that they go to the battle sites in Lexington, Concord, and Arlington. It is worth the time to stand in front of the markers and think about what those men did.

Yes, it does. It is long but it’s important to read all of it in order to get the historical perspective. Thinking about trying to post it as often as I can and share it with as many people as I can.
