Wayne LaPierre expensed $39,000 in clothes in one day, $18,300 for car and driver, ad agency says; NRA says board has full confidence in him
National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre billed the groups ad agency $39,000 for one day of shopping at a Beverly Hills clothing boutique, $18,300 for a car and driver in Europe, and had the agency cover $13,800 in rent for a summer intern, according to newly revealed NRA internal documents.
The documents, posted anonymously on the internet, provide new details of the clothing, travel and other expenses totaling more than $542,000 that Ackerman McQueen Inc. alleges Mr. LaPierre billed to it.

We need to hear the NRA’s full response to this story before we pass judgment.
That’s wonderful, but every three months the NRA is begging for money from millions of folks who almost live check by check and give because they are afraid of losing their right to own a firearm. Every mailing from the NRA is loaded with threat after threat after threat, while troweling out over a million to LaPierre. I know, Wayne can tell us to ‘eat cake’ if we are (figuratively) out of bread.
Those are personal expenses...he should be paying for his clothes out of his salary.
Oh, you must have misunderstood! I’m on your side. Way too much begging for funds to pay him that much. We won’t even talk about the others that are receiving close to that!
La Pierres hefty compensation might be almost acceptable if he was effective in his job, which he is not. He is a poor communicator and public face of the NRA and I cringe watching him on TV. Like it or not it is important for the leadership of an organization like the NRA to present good arguments for the cause and present those arguments in a way that doesnt turn off those who are on the fence. La Pierre fails on both counts. It is also noteworthy that no one has accused him of being a real gun guy. I have no verified numbers but Im willing to bet that many people would be surprised at how few rounds he sends downrange every year.
i nominate Gary Sinese or James Woods or Michelle malkin
Agreed. The NRA has been extremely helpful in protecting gun rights. There is a reason the Left hates it so much.
And Wayne has done a good job and the terms give him a clothing allowance.
Now that is interesting. I used to HIRE summer interns and pay them a wage. It never occurred to me to rent them for the summer.
Yeah, except when they're not. NRA Supported the National Firearms Act of 1934. The NRA assisted Roosevelt in drafting the 1934 National Firearms Act and the 1938 Gun Control Act, the first federal gun control laws. These laws placed heavy taxes and regulation requirements on firearms that were associated with crime, such as machine guns, sawed-off shotguns and silencers. Gun sellers and owners were required to register with the federal government and felons were banned from owning weapons. Not only was the legislation unanimously upheld by the Supreme Court in 1939, but Karl T. Frederick, the president of the NRA, testified before Congress stating, I have never believed in the general practice of carrying weapons. I do not believe in the general promiscuous toting of guns. I think it should be sharply restricted and only under licenses.
You dont justify bad behavior by attempting to point out other biased bad behavior. Thats clapping seal cheerleading behavior. They reported a factual story that should have any NRA member upset. He needs to go.
I know nothing of LaPiere, but I’ve always liked Ollie.
Power tends to corrupt... Always watch the money, espc. in NPOs.
Sorry. Didn’t think you were supporting it. I was being sarcastic without posting a sarc.
Three good choices.
Q for anyone: Has LaPierre gone on the record to deny any or all of this?
Cuz if he hasn’t issued a denial, that’s a problem.
Play in the Big Leagues, buy Big League clothes.
Appears that he can afford to purchase his own wardrobe.
In 2014, NRA contributions totaled $103 million and LaPierre’s compensation was $985,885.[13] In 2015, NRA contributions totaled $95 million. In that year, LaPierre received a $3.7 million deferred compensation distribution from his “employee funded deferred compensation plan”, which was required by federal law, and according to the NRA raised his total annual compensation to $5,110,985
When the mainstream media propagandists say negative things about the NRA, it’s time to give more of those cheap NRA gift memberships to relatives and acquaintances.
Jaysus Ke-rist! Those expenditures cannot be overlooked or swept under the rug by any sort or form of excuse. La Pierre has violated trust by those exhorbitant fetishist purchases. I want an itemized accounting of every dollar. If he spent $400 a shirt for 100 shirts I want his head on a pike. It’s that ding dong simple. If Ollie is a globalist neocon shill and Wayne is a compulsive fashion jockey, then we are utter fools who deserve full measure of what stupidity we display. Get smarter or die, that’s straight up, back porch Darwin for you.
“$1,358,966 and other compensation of $63,373 plus expenses. He damn well ought to be able to afford his own suits, etc.”
Although I still have an NRA bumper sticker on my 2008 F-150, those figures are why I’ve stopped supporting the NRA. I give to candidates who will support gun rights. Pretty easy to do in Arizona. Not interested in buying LaPierre silk underwear.
Now that is interesting. I used to HIRE summer interns and pay them a wage. It never occurred to me to rent them for the summer.
