Comey calls it 'totally normal' to plant an FBI spy in a political campaign?

Did James Comey just reveal more than he meant to?

A recent town hall–style meeting with CNN's Anderson Cooper, taking questions from college students, had Comey telling the youngster it was "totally normal" for the FBI to spy on presidential campaigns.

According to a report in the Daily Caller, Comey responded to a student inquiring about the validity of sending investigative agents to then-candidate Donald Trump's campaign this way:

Yeah, I'm not going to comment on a particular investigative step, because that's for the bureau to do, and I'm not in the government any longer, but the FBI doesn't spy to begin with. The FBI investigates. And you got to remember where we were in the end of July 2016," Comey answered. "We knew the Russians were engaged in a massive effort to attack our democracy, and then we learn from an allied ambassador that one of President Trump-elect — candidate Trump's advisers had been talking to a Russian representative long before that about dirt they had on Hillary Clinton that the Russians wanted to make available.

It may be ok, sure they had agents watching the communist socialist parties for some time. HOWEVER, it is not ok to have an agent provacateur in any campaign.

Someone should’ve asked him if he spied on Romney or Obama ? Once you spy on a political campaign you have also the ability to blackmail them. Hannity is right Comey has the right to remain silent because it sounds to me like Jim is digging his own grave.

So he just admitted he committed a crime.

I don’t know if this is President Trumps plan but it seems the longer he waits to drop the dime on these conspirators the more they talk themselves into prison.

They all should have listen to the first year law student, when in trouble “shut up”.

Instead they write books and go on hundreds of talk shows all of which is being examined and may be used in their trials.

Anyone who thinks that the FBI doesn't have assets in every campaign organization is living in a dream world. I find it hard to believe that anyone on Free Republic can seriously think the FBI is anything but another criminal organization that operates of, by, and for the establishment.

.... The FBI is attempting to portray the spying on Trump et-al as .. "Business as Usual." And to be honest .... I wouldn't be surprised at all if the FBI did spy on every candidate ... However ....

....The point of contention against the whole Mueller Investigation is that the Spying was Anything But Business as Usual and in fact in this case was Directed and Funded by the Democrat Party with the willing participation of the FBI and perhaps other alphabets to spy on the political opposition party and using fabricated evidence to get a FISA Warrant to effect the illegal surveillance .... This is clearly a serious abuse of power by the Democrat Party and the FBI.
