Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) on Wednesday introduced a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United ruling, which eliminated restrictions on corporate campaign spending.
The amendment would allow Congress and states to put forth limits on campaign contributions, according to a statement from Schiff's office.
"The Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United overturned decades of legal precedent and has enabled billions in dark money to pour into our elections," Schiff said in a statement.
The amendment would also allow states to enact laws creating public financing of campaigns.
"Amending the Constitution is an extraordinary step, but it is the only way to safeguard our democratic process against the threat of unrestrained and anonymous spending by wealthy individuals and corporations," he added. "This amendment will restore power to everyday citizens."
Schiff also announced the amendment on Twitter.
"Our democracy is not for sale," he wrote. "We must stop the flood of dark money from drowning out the voices of everyday citizens."
ETC...
The irony is lost on these munks too, when they rage against an organization named “Citizens United”.
“We can’t have that” they say ...
If anything, that ruling has given Soros, Gholdmann Sachs, etc. more power, so it works great for the Dems. However, being the flat-out liars that they are, they and the media make it sound as if it was a gift to Republicans, so they keep it in the news, and use the ruling against Republicans.
It should have been the preventative ointment.
Im sure theres a dark media section in it, banning political opinion, commentary, censoring, advocacy and bias by all media. You know, all the free campaigning and support Democrats get.
Umm...
Corporations arent citizens and many are owned by foreigners. Its simple, No US corporations should be able to donate(buy) to a politician. Corporations need to be barred from any involvement in US politics.
Quote: “You do know that the Left has a secret plan to revive and pass the ERA, don’t you?”
You do know it is not so secret. Its called the entire democrat agenda.
If by secret you mean, gays and illegals, well then, yes we know.
A FLAT OUT LIE by the garbage at the Shill. This overturned the illegal McCain-Feingold Act of 2002, a mere 8 years after being signed.
The left pisses n moans relentlessly about campaign finance abuse - yet they are consistently the worst offenders! The only thing that would change with this amendment (which will never pass BTW) is that their revenue sources would continue to be protected while the rights sources prohibited.
“...and has enabled billions in dark money to pour into our elections...” And aren’t obama and clinton grateful that it did, making them rich beyond their dreams.
How about unions or think tanks, which are liberal?
I propose a constitutional amendment to make California non existent.
Totally futile!!
re: “No US corporations should be able to donate(buy) to a politician.”
How are the DNC and RNC organized? IOW, what kind of organizational charter allowed their creation and continued operation?
Our democracy is not for sale,” he wrote.
If that were true he and his pals wouldn’t be in office.
Who will pay for the DNCs Rent-A-Mob program? Oh thats right...George Sorus, their sponsor, has a tax free foundation to support his evil projects. When will we see restrictions on all the Leftist foundations that work to defeat conservatives?
“Add a provision banning Unions from political spending and I might go for it.”
It would have to include a provision prohibiting “in-kind” contributions from unions, such as allowing/forcing union members to work on campaigns, etc.
The first article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.
Hey Schiff, ever heard the expression, “pissing in the wind”?
