The United States on Monday reiterated its support for Britain’s continuing sovereignty over an island group in the Indian Ocean, home to a strategically-located U.S. military base.

It also backed Britain’s view that the International Court of Justice, a permanent U.N. court that rules on disputes between states, should have been asked to opine on the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), since Britain had not accepted its jurisdiction in the case.

State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said the U.S. was concerned about the precedent that the ICJ case “could set for all U.N. member states.”

So, money talks, world court walks? As to a "precedent" that could affect all u.n. member states. Easy answer on that one. If you aren't a member state, it won't affect you at all. PDJT, are you listening? FTUN

Diego Garcia? Not happening.
Would be like giving California back to the Mexicans. (Um, may need a better analogy).

I love it. An island, in the Indian Ocean, owned by Britain, operated by the US, named Diego Garcia...

Why does any country, especially the United States of America, bother to pay attention to this court or any of the other ‘International Courts’?

Tell them all to pound sand up their a$$. Kick the UN out of NYC and the US and tell all but our most loyal allies, they’re on their own. Pretty soon they’ll all be talking Russian or Chinese(if they don’t go bankrupt first).

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Fed the shark at the end of the pier and ate burgers and drank a six-pack from the geedunk stand near the pier.

My LST squadron in Yokosuka got the job of helping to set up the first U.S. facilities in the islands in 1970-1971. One of our LST’s was painted white and sent off on a 30-day or so trip to Diego Garcia with four causeway sections attached to the sides of the ship. The sections had been floating in the harbor for I don’t know how long, and they were not drydocked to have the barnacles sand blasted off. As these sea creatures rotted the aroma enveloping the bridge must have been unbearable. We would all take another deployment to the Mekong Delta over that assignment any day.

When they UN puts its first carrier group out to sea, then maybe it can start telling the British or the U.S. what territory is rightfully ours.

Well, in times like that, you look to the guy to your left and to your right and then laugh at how much it all sucks.

The court made a ruling, now let them enforce it. What a total waste of time.

If the US moved out, China would move in before nightfall.

Were those LSTs built for the invasion of Japan, or were they more modern?

Man, ain’t that the truth! How big a military does this world court have? Yeah, that’s what I thought. Time wasted, island secure, next stupid thing...
