NEW YORK Six female corrections officers have been charged with illegally strip searching women who visited the Manhattan Detention Center, the Manhattan District Attorneys office announced Monday.
According to court documents, the corrections officers routinely strip searched female visitors without their consent. This included forcing the visitors to remove their pants and underwear, touching the visitors breasts, and examining the visitors private areas.
Leslie-Ann Absalom 53, a former DOC captain, and DOC officers Daphne Farmer, 49, Jennifer George, 32, Lisette Rodriguez, 51, Alifa Waiters, 45, and Latoya Shuford, 36, have been all charged with official misconduct, unlawful imprisonment, conspiracy and various counts of filing false documents.
In order to cover up the unlawful searches, four of the officers filed false paperwork with the DOC and the Manhattan DAs office claiming the visitors gave consent for the strip search, prosecutors said.

The paperwork led to the arrest of three visitors whose charges were based on the illegal searches.
There is no excuse for violating the human rights of New Yorkers visiting our Citys jails, District Attorney Cy Vance said. As alleged, these officers flagrantly abused their power when they ignored their training and subjected visitors to humiliating and unlawful searches. Further, they attempted to cover up their actions by forcing visitors to sign consent forms under false pretenses, and repeatedly lying in official documents.
Correction Officers Benevolent Association President Elias Husamudeen released the following statement:
Manhattan Detention Center Correction Officers assigned to the Visit Area, arrested more than 50 visitors last year alone for attempting to smuggle in heroin, marijuana, cocaine, K-2 synthetic, razors, scalpels and other contraband. Everyday they do everything they can to keep this jail safe for visitors, inmates and correction staff. They deserve more public support for the diligent professionalism they exude every day.

The ATF will be all over that.

Yikes! Dykes!
These ladies weren't prisoners, they were visiting the prisoners.
I'd be very interested to know if there was a rewards program for whomever found the biggest stash, highest caliber weapon, etc.
Did they yell "this is de Blasio time!" as they did it?
I hate to paint with a broad brush, but it does seem to me that there are a lot of out women in law enforcement.
Along with quite a few that may not have come out, but certainly look the part.
“These ladies weren’t prisoners, they were visiting the prisoners.”
They allow visitors? WHY? It’s not Motel 6, it’s JAIL.
Were they conjugal visitors?
They used to bake cakes, now they just stick it up their ass.
Nope, we’ll be supporting Dem from here on in. 6 new Dem voting wards of the State.
Somehow I missed the fact that they were visitors. I should read more carefully I guess.
*Recall the 60s the policewomen worked at the department HQ, wore skirts and had beehive hairdos.
Saw this, add firefighter to the list.
"That's all you got?"
"It's shrinkage, I tell you."
"No, I mean carry-on."
"Carrion? It ain't dead yet!"
"No, I mean where's your bag?"
"I told you. Shrinkage.
After spending 25 years in law enforcement I’ve noticed there is a certain degree of self-selection when it comes to lesbians and police work. They are definitely overrepresented compared to their numbers in the overall population.

Maybe there’s a clumping effect, too. A dyke or two get jobs in the same department, and before you know it, it’s a dyke department. NTTAWWT
I’ve been guilty of that. We had a heavily dyke finishing department and a light in the loafers kid applied for a job with references that were dykes working there. It was an entry level job, I hired him, and it was a win win win. My dykes were happy, he got a job, and he made a good worker.
I’m sure that has something to do with it. But I think also that lesbians are more attracted to policework than straight women are generally. Something to do with their comfort with more masculine personality traits.

The main perp, Volpe, is currently serving his 30-year sentence at a minimum security facility at the Federal Transfer Center, Oklahoma City in Oklahoma; he is scheduled for release on August 3, 2025.
