A multilateral military treaty between Honduras, Israel, and the United States will see the deployment of 1000 Israeli soldiers at Honduras. They will train the Armed Forces of Honduras (FFAA) and National Police (PN).
The main mission of the troops is to train for border protection to stop migrants fleeing Honduras to the U.S., especially children.
This would be the second time that Honduras is allowing foreign military personnel in the territory and the first time in Israel’s history to send troops abroad.
Apart from border protection, fight against drug trafficking, investigation, and counterterrorism will be offered as well.

Training mostly to stop people fleeing organized gangster violence. How about addressing the cause of the exodus, and not forcing citizens to live in it?
It would be great if we sent some naval assets to sit off the coast of Honduras.
..... Every time I hear that the latest Caravan de Jour has rushed and broken through the Honduran Border Crossing ..... I am left wondering why .... After all of these years ... Why the F&@k Haven’t they built a more reinforced and impenetrable National Border crossing???? The official Border Crossing always looks like flimsy rusty chain link fence gates guarded by minimum wage local hires.
Step one - eliminate the cartels.
Step two - rinse and repeat.
Just pay Israel to do your border protecting.
Do you have a proposal? And does it require the USA?
Just train the trainees in counter-gang warfare and forget making them border guards. The US involvement would be no more than already proposed. You don’t lock people up with criminals.

During the ‘80ss Israely troops were frequently seen in Central America.

Interesting development. First advice based on Israel's experience, build a wall. Of course keeping people in is different thatn keeping them out. But at least Honduras is doing something.
