Home News U.S. Jury convicts former Air Force Academy cadet of raping classmate

DENVER — Federal prosecutors in Colorado say a former Air Force Academy cadet has been convicted of raping a fellow cadet.

U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn's office says jurors found 20-year-old Alvaro Pablo Velarde guilty on Thursday of two counts of aggravated sexual abuse and one count of abusive sexual contact.

According to prosecutors, Velarde is a native of Lima, Peru. His sentencing hearing is set for July 30.

According to prosecutors, Velarde violently raped the female cadet in her dorm room in October and ignored her pleas to stop.

Prosecutors said the woman was in severe pain and sought medical treatment immediately. Velarde was charged two days after the assault.

Prosecutors say a doctor later diagnosed the female cadet with a concussion due to the assault. Dunn says she showed "tremendous courage."

Just two questions:

1) Why are there foreigners in the Air Force Academy?

2) Why are there women in the Air Force Academy?

Is there a military advantage I'm missing here?

The US military academies traditionally have allocated a few slots every year to “international” students, usually junior officers from “allied” countries to cultivate leadership and good will. Apparently they will have to do a better job with background checks and interviews.

No matter. No more immigrants. Legal or illegal. Please. We've already got millions of unwanted native born Americans. They live in tents on sidewalks. They belong to the Democratic party. They engage in deviant sexual behavior, aka homosexuality. Etc.

The female cadet said Velarde raped her in her dorm room on Oct. 23, 2018. Prosecutors said he ignored her pleas to stop as he raped her. He forced her pants down, forced her onto the bed, sexually assaulted her and hit her head so hard she felt “dazed,” federal prosecutor Emily Treaster told the jury in opening statements Monday.

The victim was crying during the incident, Treaster said.

Defense attorney Mark Scabavea has described the case as a “he said, she said,” case and told the jury on Monday that this case stemmed from the “Me Too” movement.

He said the victim had a serious boyfriend and learned her parents were getting a divorce. He said the victim claimed she was raped after consensually having sex with the defendant and cheating on her “serious” boyfriend.

Court transcripts of previous court hearings show the victim went to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs in severe pain. She was later diagnosed with a concussion, according to a federal investigator who testified at Velarde’s detention hearing.

The defendant’s roommate told investigators that Velarde admitted that he continued having sex with her even after she asked him to stop, according to court records. The victim told another cadet within minutes of the alleged sexual assault, an investigator previously also testified.

There are foreigners at all the academies. It's a good practice. As for this guy... well.

Yeah, you are really rolling, Air Force...

I tracked it down. This man is a foreign cadet,a member of the Peruvian Air Force. He also beat the victim and tore her clothes off before pushing her onto her bed, smashing her hard enough over the head to have a bad concussion, and then raped her.

Most foreign cadets and midshipmen are the children of uber-rich plutocrats and narcos who greased many palms to secure their academy appointments.

These spoiled brats were raised to feel an amazing sense of entitlement. Horses, yachts, helicopters, and, of course, girls girls girls throwing themselves at these rich brats.

No surprise they feel entitled to take what they want at the academy. All their lives, nobody tells them no.

Aren't cadets/midshipmen at our service academies subject to the UCMJ?

No. Women should be segregated or not allowed in combat.

When I was stationed at NAS Alameda in 1969 there were Brazilian Navy personnel on base training. It’s the first time I had actually seen a foreign person outside of the movies. Now look at us.

Please see 14. I forgot an important cultural element. This super-entitled attitude is prevalent from these uber-rich brats hailing from south of the border all the way through South America.

Cadets/Mids from South Korea or Thailand, for example, would not in a million years disgrace their (extended) families this way. Never. Unthinkable.

But the richy-rich kids of the cartel narcos and plutocrats literally believe anything they want, they can have.
