They have indeed. They’re very upfront and unapologetic about it too. They have steadfastly stated they will remain Hungarian and Christian. I’ve seen videos of them demonstrating in their capital attesting to this. Thousands of young people in the crowd. Amazing to see.

Same with me. I can sort of speak it but am well aware of my limitations in vocabulary grammar reading and writing. In my one trip there watching a newscast I could comprehend about half of what was being said. However its somewhat higher for general conversation.

In 1971 and 1972, I was in a US Army Armored Cav unit that patrolled the East-West German border. I remember the spring of 1972 and standing on a hill looking over into the East. I turned an looked back into the West and saw German farmers plowing their fields with brand new John Deere type tractors, pulling the latest gadgets on the back of their rigs, plowing, planting, etc. The best equipment. Then I turned back and looked at the farmers over in the East. They were using those old 1930's model tractors, with the large iron rear wheels that looked like tank tracks. There were also men plowing fields using a horse!!! A HORSE!!! At that moment I saw the difference between the East and West. That the East was still in the 1920s and 1930s, while West Germany was in the 1970's!!! That was the difference between capitalism and communism right in the growing fields of the East and West. The East was still 50 to 60 years behind. When the Soviet Union fell, we saw the difference.
I also remember a Soviet diplomat that defected years ago. He was assigned to D.C. He moved into a beautiful apartment. He went down to the super market to purchase food. When he walked in he saw all the foods and food stuffs in our stores. He could not believe all the foods. The clothes in the stores. The TVs, radios, cars, all for the immediate purchasing. He said he waited like 10 years just to get a 4th hand car. He said he KNEW then that the Soviet leadership had lied to he and all his Soviet citizens. That the West was nothing and the East was the future. He said he knew then, he was going to defect. And, he did. He got a first hand view of the commie, socialist, Soviet LIES!!! Just as the dims lie here, now, by the millions.
Although the two armies fought side-by-side to life the siege of Vienna.
