For decades belt-it-out popular singer Kate Smith (shown on right) was considered the embodiment of the uniquely American cultural phenomenon that combines wholesome entertainment with patriotism and love of country. Smiths rendition of Irving Berlins classic God Bless America, which she first recorded in 1939, turned the song into a patriotic anthem that has inspired generations of Americans.
But Smith, who enjoyed a 50-year career and the esteem of fans all over the world before her death in 1986, has become the latest target of PC gumshoes ever on the lookout for evidence that individuals either past and present have been guilty of supposedly racist, homophobic, sexist, or other socially unacceptable thoughts, attitudes, or actions.
In Smiths case, someone somewhere dug up a couple of long-forgotten songs she recorded back in the 1930s which, by just about anyones interpretation would be considered, in todays enlightened society, to be racist. One of them, reported CNN, is her 1931 rendition of That's Why Darkies Were Born, which has lyrics that read: Someone had to pick the cotton, / Someone had to plant the corn,/ Someone had to slave and be able to sing, / That's why darkies were born. The other, recalled CNN, is Smiths 1933 recording of Pickaninny Heaven, in which colored children in an orphanage are encouraged to dream about a magical place that grows great big watermelons.

Smiths niece, Suzy Andron, who helped care for Smith in her final days, said that she strongly objected to the portrayal of the singer as racist, and was saddened that a woman who has been dead for almost 35 years would be attacked in this way
while we are at historical racism, let’s demand that the NBA and MLB shut down most of their franchises.
Today’s Americans are too young, too liberal, and too uninformed to know anything about the patriotism and genuine goodness of the late Kate Smith.
They go activist in a vacuum.
Time for our side to say, “Not so fast there...”
NBA and MLB....
/////////////////////
Yeah but the NBA makes sure that the number of white players and ones of color are always equal to the percentage of the overall population. Thus the majority of NBA players on any NBA team are white. Oh, wait, I guess they didn’t do that.
But in corporations, graduate programs, the Post Office, promotion in firefighting, hiring and having business startup money set-asides it’s all based on merit only, right? Not persons of color given special advantages based on affirmative action quotas?
Oh, wait. Wrong again. You know, maybe I should shut up.
America’s young people on Kate Smith.....
First of all “God” means she believed in a Creator.
“Bless” means she believed there is a meaning to prayer and that God will help us.
“America” put our one nation forward as exceptional rather than part of a Soros-Obama-United Nations style amalgamation of equal international borderless entities of which America is a small part.
Thus singing “God Bless America” by Kate Smith had to be banned./s
While we are at historical racism, lets demand that the Democrat Party denounce their congressional “Wizard” of the kkk!
Below is the letter I wrote on the subject, which of course no one will ever publish. I also sent the link and the text of Kates statement about her true attitude towards race.
Kate Smith and God Bless America
The statue of Kate Smith must be covered to protect the wounded virtue of a faction finding moral certitude from exchanging a multitude of social media posts; all detached from any legitimate philosophy or spiritual faith. The instigators trade adulthood and dignity for prestige without accomplishment. The subservient parties receive effortless addictive compassion as the drug of choice.
The true objective here is America. Here is an example of using someones human frailty to disparage the country. They didnt go after 1930s singers Evelyn Laye, Helen Morgan or Kat Thompson for committing similar offenses, because they didnt sing God Bless America. The monument does not venerate the person but testifies to the extraordinary achievements in producing the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution which define the identity of America.
These documents stand in the path of those embracing a fiction proclaiming infallible direction of human activity. These politicians become patricians stand ready to offer responsive administrative laws and rules. Such creations supposedly provide supportive emotional security for all, but actually compel a subservience of citizens never intended by our Constitution.
True compassion and leadership would come from understanding how very few individuals cannot receive the freedom to create, encourage, explore, repair, analyze, develop, build, cooperate, serve and/or teach and become heroic as they exercise their intangible natural liberties as guaranteed by our Constitution.
You might want to watch this video to discover Kate Smiths attitude about race. Her statement is about four fifths of the way down the page.

It seems to me that faith in the decency of human beings is what we must have more of, if there is to be a future for all of us in this world. We read in the papers every day about conferences on the best way to keep the peace. Well, I’m not an expert on foreign affairsand I don’t pretend to know all the complex things that will have to be done for a lasting peace. But I am a human beingand I do know something about people. I know that our statesmenour armies of occupationour military strategistsmay all fail if the peoples of the world don’t learn to understand and tolerate each other. Race hatredssocial prejudicesreligious bigotrythey are all the diseases that eat away the fibers of peace. Unless they are exterminated it’s inevitable that we will have another war. And where are they going to be exterminated? At a conference table in Geneva? Not by a long shot. In your own cityyour churchyour children’s schoolperhaps in your own home. You and I must do itevery father and mother in the world, every teacher, everyone who can rightfully call himself a human being. Yes, it seems to me that the one thing the peoples of the world have got to learn if we are ever to have a lasting peace, istolerance. Of what use will it be if the lights go on again all over the worldif they don’t go on ... in our hearts.
Leave our statues alone! Do we have to rehash slavery? Do I have to mention the slave Casor and his fellow blackman who got him to be his slave? This is getting ridiculous.
Which one? There were many from the time of Reconstruction to nearly present day.
But I'm guessing you are meaining Robert "Sheets" Byrd?
