Dropping a dime on trucks and buses that keep their engines running while parked is paying big bucks to some New Yorkers. The number of summonses issued for violating the citys anti-idling law skyrocketed to 1,038 last year up from just 24 in 2017 following the creation of a reward program for ratting out offenders, The Post has learned. Meanwhile, the city Department of Environmental Protection has handed out nearly $20,000 to 13 whistleblowers who each got a 25 percent share of the fines generated by their tips, according to official data.
Leading the list is lawyer David Dong, who pocketed $4,912.80 from 47 summonses, followed by theater worker Zachary Tinkelman, who scored $4,600, also from 47 summonses. Their payouts differed because fines for idling for more than three minutes or one minute in a school zone range from $350 to a maximum $2,000 for a repeat offense. Four of Dongs bounties involved repeat offenders, which netted him two payments of $375 each and another two of $250.

What a ding-dong. Who would hire a lawyer who goes around ratting out his fellow citizens?
How Stalinesque.
Chairman Mao is smiling in his grave
Imagine if ICE paid for information about illegal aliens......
I hope they reported that income to the IRS and NY State Tax authorities.
It would be a shame if they didn’t.................
No side to root for here - the people who insist on double-parking (engines on or not), and the Stasi-style informants. We see repeatedly what the ideal society of the American Left is, and it’s Erich Honecker’s East Germany.
Bunch of Cindy Brady tattletales.
#8 I am reading this and I click on the link and now see a story about Maureen McCormick. I hate being tracked.
lolol
But you've gotta give Kommrad Honecker credit for one thing...he made sure that every East German had work.
But pay *was* another issue.
I liked the “Honecker” joke in “The Lives of Others”
Honecker greets the Sun, saying: “Good morning, dear Sun!”
“Good morning, dear Honecker” the sun replies.
Honecker works, and then at noon he heads to the window and says: “Good day, dear Sun!”
“Good day, dear Honecker!” the sun replies.
In the evening, Honecker calls it a day, and heads once more to the window, and says: “Good evening, dear Sun!” There is no response.
Hearing nothing, Honecker says again: “Good evening, dear Sun! What’s the matter?” The sun retorts: “Screw you. I’m in the West now!”
ICE should give a similar cut of fines to people who inform on employers of illegal aliens.
Wish I could “make bank” ratting out idling diesels. The ambulances and armored trucks that always seem to be parked at building entrances are a danger to public health.

Good!
New York City
Socialist hell

That's right, Officer. My Daddy's station wagon has been idling for over 5 minutes now.
Didn’t the Soviets and east bloc countries encourage the kids to rat out their parents?
