Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein spoke out Sunday on the deadly attack on his synagogue in the San Diego metropolitan area which left one woman dead and three people wounded over the weekend.
Speaking with NBC News, the 57-year-old rabbi and spiritual leader of the Chabad of Poway synagogue recalled the moment he stood face to face with the gunman, John T. Earnest, before being shot and losing two of his fingers.
“As soon as I walked in through the banquet hall, I heard a large bang, a large noise, and I didn’t know what it was. I thought that maybe Mrs. Lori fell or the table fell. I turned around and I was face to face with this murderer, this terrorist, who was holding the rifle and looking straight at me. As soon as he saw me he started to shoot towards me. That’s when I put my hands up, and that’s when my fingers got blown away. Then he continued on and just killed Lori Kaye right there on the spot.”
“I turned around and saw a group of children in the banquet hall, including my granddaughter. And I just ran, herded all the kids together and got them outside.....Fortunately, there’s an off-duty patrol officer during services who came in pursuit of the terrorist.”
Rabbi Goldstein went on to describe Lori Kaye as a “pioneering family member” of the Chabad congregation and “an activist” who had helped build the synagogue for decades.
“She was just a kind soul. Everyone in the community knew her. She was the kind of person who was the first to be everywhere.”
“She’s such a dear friend. I’ve known her for 33 years. I’m so heartbroken and saddened by these killings.”

Armed citizen in the crowd I read someplace. Ruh Roh! Defensive weapons usage is counter to the narrative.
Some people are arguing that there is a spooky new breed of mass shooter that is killing as a joke. An extension of their online lives spent as nihilistic internet trolls, hanging out at sites like 8chan.
They mimic the screed that Norway’s mass killer Anders Breivik wrote, but with them it’s only empty words. Part of their “irony” and satire and mockery. Everything that they post regarding their motives is an inside joke for the amusement of their fellow trolls.
The New Zealand shooter apparently was one of these. This Poway kid may be another.
I’m a 41-year resident of Poway, The City in the Country, with the lowest crime rate in San Diego County and an outpost of conservatism in a state gone crazy with Socialists and invaded by millions of illegal aliens. We have the highest per capita income in the county, and many of the pro athletes from the Padres and Chargers live/lived here — Tony Gwynn was a long term resident. What p*sses me off is that this is likely the only frame of reference most will have for our small, friendly, religious, traditional city. What we do have in the county, particularly inland, is a long term problem with neo-Nazis / white supremacists / skinheads / KKK wannabes, started by the execrable Tom Metzger. I have a personal history and knowledge of encounters with these lowlife *ssholes who pollute our community:
• Two skinhead teenagers accosted me in a small park 200 yards from my house, and one drew a semiautomatic pistol from his waistband and pointed it at me (they thought I was someone else, and moved on). They were known to law enforcement.
• A skinhead family lived at the end of my cul-de-sac, and every morning they would let their dogs out to sh*t on the sidewalk in front of my driveway.
• Neo-Nazis on multiple occasions vandalized another Jewish synagogue near my church (not the Chabad in the news). All the Jewish facilities in Poway now have armed security, which was demonstrated yesterday.
• A white supremacist murdered the manager of the Poway Walmart in the parking lot of the store after an associate refused to take off the trigger lock of a gun for sale in the store. Three days later, he was found hiding in a motel, and in an ensuing chase, he crashed the motorcycle he was on and killed himself. This is the incident that caused Walmart to cease selling handguns.
Now this 19 y/o Trump-hating d*ckhead shoots up a Jewish community center, and a conservative one at that. I originally am from the South, and I identify as a Southerner to this day. And what we know is that white trash like this idiot are the lowest form of life on planet Earth.
Fry him....it’s that simple.
I don’t know how rational I’d be with a crazy shooter right in front of me. I hope my first reaction will be a good one that would save the lives of others and my own. But I don’t think there’s time to be rational in such situations. You just have to act and you have very little time to do anything.

Aren’t they priced out of the housing market? I’d imagine being a skinhead with a lightning bolt tattoo on your arm might limit one’s employment prospects.
