Rolled up inside the Egyptian Shroud fabric was a piece of strange brown paper. What we found under the head were layers of the original mummy wrapping that had obviously come away when the shroud was taken off the body, said the principal conservator.

The climate really helped preserve the Egyptian artifacts. Items from Europe not so much.
To: mad_as_he$$
Yes of course............Europe is full of dampness so clothe etc don't have much chance to survive the centuries unless carefully sealed and buried. Although there was a great discovery of the Viking Era not so long ago. That too was interesting.

What if it is real?exactly how would that ever be proven...?
Well, when the bequeathed owner of the Shroud returns, we should ask Him.

It has been proven beyond any doubt that the shroud could not have possibly been created by any technique currently known to man.
If it could not have been created by any known technology today, it certainly could not have been created by a man 2000 years ago.
The shroud has been extensively studied and all the details are consistent with Roman crucifixion at the time of Christ.

If it were important in God’s plan, scripture would say so.
It doesn’t, so the cloth isn’t.

If the Shroud is a fake from the middle ages, explain how it was made?
To: onedoug
Odd how the shroud suddenly popped up in Europe after more than a thousand years. Where had it been all that time?Someone thought of a great money making idea just before it appeared. It's been around THAT long. This is all just too much.

If its Catholic its fake. What an asinine statement....Catholicism was established 1,600 years before the "revolution" (not reformation)....Jesus, on the Apostles, founded it.....read a Christian history book.....

Medieval hoax?????...So people then could devize a method to do that and people in this age couldnt figure it out.....please!!!I'm with you. Before we can argue about whether or not it's a 16th century fake, we first have to decide whether it's even possible for it to be a 16th century fake. From what I have learned of The Shroud, I would have to say 'no'.

I could give anyone/corporation the same type/size bolt of linen and $5M to reproduce the image on the shroud and they would fail.

The C-14 dating that supposedly dated the shroud to the middle ages has now been largely debunked. Scientifically, I would not refer to the 1988 C14 test as debunked as if it were pseudoscience, but rather as falsified. In other words the conclusions have been proved to not be true by other scientific methods. The primary reasons being that the 1988 C14 tests were falsified by showing that the protocols of sample testing were not followed and the correctly done testing actually tested a sample area of the Shroud that had been repaired that included some later introduced cotton rewoven threads of sufficient quantity to skew the testing enough invalidate the test.
As a mater of fact any introduced material of a later than original carbon would skew the results and falsify the results. In this case no less than six different means and peer-reviewed studies falsified the C14 tests.

Doesn’t even matter how it was made. Absolutely no bearing on proving it was wrapped around Jesus.
