He also financially supports and endorses Democrats (like Harry Reid in the past) who proclaim themselves pro-2A. Does the NRA think gun rights will be enhanced if they help the Democrats grab a majority?
“I dont care if lucifer is running the NRA.”
****
That’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard all week..
Too big, too inefficient, too easy to escape accountability.

Sad, but true. The NAACP got into similar trouble a few years ago and had a similarly oversized board at the time. Such a large board necessarily enables the CEO to run an organization pretty much as he wants to, an invitation for trouble. IMHO, having seen such things myself, the ideal board size is between 9 and 21, nine being the definite minimum.
I think Lapierre has been in a position of power too long. It is time for him to retire.
Audit Wayne LaPierre ...... I am a life member , my grandfather gave each grandkid a life membership when we were little . Never never never have liked Wayne LaPierre or his management of the NRA.
Well, yes, there’s that too... but, you don’t need to tell me; I already know. A a lot of Republicans defended the NRA’s “non-partisan” position in the past (probably knowing full well, that “pro gun” Dems are ready to stab gun owners in the back whenever they’re given the order). Tell the people who seem to think LaPierre’s a “good guy.”
Way too many freeloading gun owners letting others carry the load
The free-riding argument is a favorite of leftists and trade union spokesmen.
Joining a union, or a lobby, or a political action committee, or any advocacy group (like the NRA), is fine for those who are so inclined. But calling those who dont join freeloaders is disingenuous.
There is one way to defend the 2nd Amendment that is FAR more important than being a member of the NRA. Namely, voting for pro 2nd Amendment politicians like President Trump.
The idea of Ollie North, the Iran-Contra guy, wanting to clean up the NRA is puzzling. I think the NRA is a crooked organization and needs cleaning up, but I would not be putting characters like North in leadership roles.
LaPierre needs to go.
I support my NRA state affiliate, and GOA.
They are free loaders PERIOD
So called 2nd amendment politicians are there because of the NRA NOT from any personal beliefs
Like it or not a pressure group like the NRA is needed
I wouldn’t trust Ollie North as far as I could throw him. I’m glad he’s out.
Lots of comments out there, saying that guys good, that guys bad. Bottom line is this, SUPPORT THE 2ND AMENDMENT by any means possible.
Met LaPierre about 30 years ago when he spoke at a gun rights group I belonged to. My impression back the, an is still, that he is a compromising limp dick.
And, what are your reasons for not trusting Col. North?
I watched his testimony at the Iran-Contra hearings. At one point he was asked about the part he was actively involved in and he had the arrogance to state something to the effect that the govt has the right to do these things because they know better than the people do. I thought to myself yeh ahole thats why you should be drummed out of the military and going to jail.
How Oliver North ever weaseled his way back into the public trust is beyond me.
If that is the way you remember it, I guess you have the right not to trust him.
AFAIAC, North fell on his sword for the USA, and as such should not be judged today for what he did in the 1980s to advance US foreign policy.
As far as the NRA is concerned, I am a Life Member, and I am saddened by the development of an internal battle for control between Col. North and Wayne Lapierre.
LaPierre seems to have prevailed inasmuch as Co. North is out as President of NRA.
Col. North is right to call for an audit and an investigation, and if LaPierre is proven to be in the wrong, he must go.
The NRA MUST survive this intercine warfare! Hopefully, if NRA survives, it will unendorse Red Flag Laws and fight more for individual rights, such as nationwide Constitutional Carry laws.
There are other Pro-Second Amendment support groups in existence. Several come right to mind: Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, Gun Owners of America, The Firearms Policy Coalition, The 2nd Amendment Foundation, and the U.S. Concealed Carry Association. In addition, there are numerous state Pro-2A groups.
If North really has been getting anywhere near $1 million per year of NRA money then something is really wrong. Both with him for taking the money, and whoever approved paying it.
"Oliver North, the former Iran-Contra operative, who now serves as the NRAs president, is paid roughly $1 million a year through Ackerman, according to two NRA sources."
Looting the NRA for personal gain would be a good reason not to trust somebody.
LaPierre is also paid REALLY BIG BUCKS! So if, indeed, Col. North is paid $1mm/yr, there is some skulduggery afoot!
I agree: “Looting the NRA for personal gain would be a good reason not to trust somebody.”
FRom what I can gather, this is a real shitstorm!
There are many conflicting claims and counterclaims: both LaPierre and North (and others in the NRA management hierarchy) are accused of and are accusing each other of various schemes to loot the NRA treasury, which by most accounts is empty.
NRA is in serious trouble - for the moment, I am in Col. North’s camp, but am trying to keep an open mind.
And, the NY Attorney General’s interest in shutting down the NRA will certainly add a certain amount of intrigue to the already very messy story.
I’ll spend my money on more productive gun groups.
The NRA has always been good for the NRA, not so much for me.
