New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Friday ordered that the Mississippi flag, which carries a Confederate emblem, be replaced by the American flag at a state park that overlooks the Statue of Liberty.
Murphy ordered the removal of Mississippi’s flag from a display of each state’s flag at Liberty State Park, a preserve of more than 1,200 acres in Jersey City that overlooks Ellis Island and Lady Liberty.
Murphy is a first-term Democrat and a self-styled progressive who regularly cited the Emma Lazarus poem at the statue’s base that invites immigrants to America.
New Jersey, he said, is rooted in diversity, and the flag doesn’t fit.
“The Confederate symbol displayed on the Mississippi state flag is reprehensible and does not reflect our values of inclusivity and equality,” he said in a statement. […]

nice try; you’re attempting to conflate the term “northern’ with ‘free’; no state that fought for the Union, in other words free states, practiced slavery...your ‘northern’ states are actually referred to as ‘border’ states, and were as ‘north’ as Virginia and Arkansas are ‘north’...

The Emma Lazarus poem was a Communist add-on well after the fact and has nothing to do with the statue. It should be removed for its false message - we do NOT want the world’s poor huddled masses.
How about we divide the country again along the Mason-Dixon Line.
Exactly what the “rest of the world” wants us to do.
However, I don’t think that all of the states north of that line are communistic; the distribution is not so easily delineated these days.
We can't have a white slave holder on a state flag.
The “rest of the world” doesn’t know where Mississippi and New Jersey are and doesn’t care.
Most likely to do that are the communist rulers of that state itself.

New Jersey was one of only two northern states that didn’t support Lincoln in 1864.
Before and during the war it was quite sympathetic to the south. Princeton University was full of Southern gentlemen in the 1850’s.
Some judge should rule that state parks can fly their own flags of course, but as far as flying flags from other states it should be that you fly all of them, or you fly none of them.
Diversity kicks people out? Doesn't make any sense.
I hope Mississippi does the same in their state...infact, perhaps forbidding any state employee from attending seminars, etc in Jersey would be a start....
DE was NOT a border state, for just one.
SECESSION was important to the MAJORITY of non-slavers (as well as to the 10-15% of SLAVERS, in the NORTH & SOUTH), as the ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS, diaries, journals illustrate that the MAIN reason for secession was to FREE the Southland from a FARAWAY government that the average man believed, with JUST CAUSE, was highly likely to become tyrannical.
(Our large/mixed-race/extended family NEVER owned even a single slave, except a red-headed Irish HELLION, who was an indentured servant out of the UK & who “her Master” soon married.= They were married for over 3 decades & they had 14 children.)
The PERCENTAGE of slave-owners was about EQUAL throughout the NORTH & SOUTH.
(The difference was that the Northern slavers owned slaves & rented/leased them out in the Caribbean & in the South.)
ALL of the “US flagged” slave ships were NORTHERN owned & mostly out of New England. = Five plus years after Richmond fell, the same New England slavers were selling slaves in places where slavery remained legal.
Btw, it was the BRITISH NAVY’S ANTI-SLAVERY PATROLS that finally ended the slave-trade from Africa to the Americas.
As I said, you need to do some serious research, as I have for over 4 decades, before “popping off”, as your knowledge of that subject is about as deep as a coat of cheap house-paint. = Pardon me for calling your comments: SILLY, uneducated & completely SIMPLISTIC.
