Vallmoe Shqaire, 51, a Palestinian-born Jordanian, was sentenced Friday in L.A. district court to nine months behind bars after pleaded guilty in January to illegally obtaining U.S. citizenship.
Shqaire was given until May 28 to surrender to begin serving his time, but U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services may take him into custody at any time based on the fact that his citizenship was revoked and he is under an immigration hold for deportation, attorneys said at the sentencing hearing.
U.S. District Judge John F. Walter made clear that he would prefer that Shqaire — who is free on bond — be allowed to self-surrender to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons on the appointed date. Walter said that as part of his plea deal, the defendant agreed to a judicial removal order and will not contest deportation to his native Jordan.
Although immigration agents attended the hearing, Shqaire left the courthouse accompanied by a friend without being detained.
The case of the convicted terrorist-turned-US-citizen Shqaire raises questions not only about how he slipped past the enhanced vetting process implemented after 9/11, but also about why US law enforcement did not act more swiftly once his deception was discovered.
He was charged in September with illegally obtaining his American citizenship by intentionally withholding his criminal record and past associations.
“By concealing his violent, terrorist conduct, defendant circumvented the procedures our immigration system depends upon,” prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum.
Federal authorities have been aware since at least 2010 that Shqaire was arrested on a bombing-related charge in Israel and served time in prison. They’ve had fingerprint evidence conclusively linking him to the terrorist act, committed under the name Mahmad hadr Mahmad Shakir, since early 2016, according to federal court records.

Now who was President when this terrorist was given US citizenship in 2010? You can be sure there were hundreds more of these “mistakes”, like the charming Muslim couple who blew up the Christmas party in San Bernardino, CA in 2015, killing 14 and seriously wounded 22.

Good question. To be blunt, these chain immigration policies are meant to subvert and destroy our country. Plain and simple. The Democrats pushing these destructive polices don't give 2 shit-holes about America.

I know from personal experience (as well as stories I hear from immigration lawyers) that the amount of fraud that goes on is substantial

He walked out free? We deserve what we get by letting Mexicans take our soldiers weapons and by letting non citizens evade taxes.

I can think of plenty of progressives and several Democrat House members who will be very upset about this. Only a year and a half since Rasmea Odeh, convicted terrorist, was deported under similar circumstances. Wonder how many killers we've imported, palestinian and others. Progressives tell us terrorists don't come her. Criminals either. We should just shut these types of investigations down.
