A measles quarantine was ordered Thursday at two public universities in Los Angeles in an effort to try to prevent the spread of the highly contagious disease. The order was issued at UCLA and Cal State LA for students and staff exposed to a confirmed case of measles and who cannot prove they have been vaccinated against the highly contagious disease. Those students and university employees, numbering more than 100, were being ordered to stay home, avoid contact with others and notify public health officials if they develop symptoms... The news comes at a time when measles cases in the United States have surpassed the highest number on record since the disease was declared eliminated nationwide in 2000. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday confirmed the milestone, saying the agency has counted 695 cases in 22 states this year.

The number of measles cases has climbed to the point where it is a statistical wonder that we haven’t heard about any deaths yet. Measles kills about 1 in 500 immediately; another 1 in 1,000 die several years later from a recurrence of measles in the brain.
Rigorous vaccine programs have brought the worldwide measles annual death rate to fewer than 100,000. But only a couple of decades ago, annual deaths were counted in the millions.
Rubella kills and maims the very young, those who have not been born yet.
These diseases are not like mild bouts of the common cold. They are serious; this is why vaccines were developed. No one has bothered trying to develop common cold vaccines, because deaths from the common cold are extremely rare, if they happen at all.
I see violation of Due Process, Breach of Contact for education, possible physical or attempted assault, and invasion of privacy in this Gestapo effort. Where is the ACLU?

That is not at all true. The majority of measles deaths are in children, as are chicken pox deaths.
It was not so long ago in our (US) history when more children died before the age of 5 than survived to their teen years. Author Roald Dahl wrote a heartrending account of losing his seven year old daughter to measles in 1962; he was never the same after this loss.
As for some vaccines not lasting, this is why boosters are given. The length of immunity induced by various vaccines is one component of the research that is conducted on vaccines, and is built into the recommended vaccine schedule.
About 5 years ago, I was tested for immunity against certain diseases. My medical record now says that I am medically exempt from having to have measles or rubella vaccines because I am immune. I was vaccinated against rubella in 1980 and against measles in 1984--thus, I am approaching 40 years of protection from those vaccines.
Actually, since proof of vaccination is only required for immigration visas and not visitor, business or student visas this will keep happening.
As long as we are allowing unvaccinated people to travel legally and freely in and out of the country, we will have outbreaks.
They already know this latest outbreak originated in the Ukraine where Hasidic pilgrims picked it up and took it back to Israel and American visitors to Israel brought it back to the orthodox communities in New York.
The Washington outbreak is also the Ukrainian strain and patient zero was a visiting child that infected his peers at a church. While they aren’t identifying the church, the smart money says Eastern Orthodox.
While it’s not illegal immigration per se that is the problem in this instance, it is part and parcel of the stupid border policies that congress refuses to fix.
That would be true if the diseases you were choosing to risk only affected you. But they don't. The reason for mandatory vaccine policies for people attending public schools or universities is that they pose a risk to those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons. Some people have deficient immune systems. Some people develop diseases that affect their immunity. Infants are too young to be vaccinated and have undeveloped immune systems and thus are at increased risk of serious sequelae or death from these diseases.
In one Supreme Court case in the 1950s (IIRC, could be earlier), a man argued that he had a right not to take the Smallpox vaccine. The court ruled against him because of the public health issue.

If the disease doesn't exist in a community, the relatively few number of people who refuse to get vaccinations aren't ever exposed. When new individuals who have not been vaccinated and a number of them have the disease or have been exposed are introduced into the community, the herd immunity previously experienced by the anti-vaxers goes away.
TL;DR: the infected illegal invaders are the problem, not the relatively few citizens who refuse vaccines.
The solution is not a border wall, but rather a containment wall built on California’s Northern, Eastern, and Southern border! Then simply relocate all communists in California via operation air drop!

Now sure how I survived childhood.
I had measles, mumps, German measles (rubella), whooping cough, chicken pox, scarlet fever, rheumatic fever, several bouts of influenza, ring worm and I even survived being bitten by a water moccasin (for which I received anti-venom, a tetanus shot and a bunch of rabies shots to the belly).
Anyone who doesn’t get a vaccination to protect against these diseases is an idiot.
