Actually it does mention suicide in the link posted here.
She was already found dead, she committed suicide.
Columbine was the start of the hysteria, I think if you did a graph of school shootings the inflection point would be right around there.

Last I read, police said she committed suicide before the manhunt had begun.
The whole time they were searching for her, she already was gone, the poor soul.
In other words, her trip seems to have been a suicide trip and nothing more.
