SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - Puerto Rico's government plans to demolish 16,000 structures that were heavily damaged by Hurricane Maria nearly two years ago.
Officials said Tuesday that they expect to obtain $400 million in federal funds for the project, pending approval by federal officials.

“They’re sending us $400M for demolitions, but no, Trump hasn’t done diddley for PR.”
Good! Time to “sell it back to Spain!” Some years ago, we decided to break with our “tradition” of having our national sales meeting in Hawaii, and opt for Puerto Rico. By comparison to Hawaii, Puerto Rico is a dump! We had stuff stolen from our rooms at the Caribe Hilton ( which was comparatively speaking a dump too), he locals who comprised the wait staff there looked like they wanted to kill us. TV was all in Spanish. The spouse of one of our salespeople had to be hospitalized. While in the hospital, here jewelry was stolen. We were forced to charter a jet to take her to Atlanta for treatment. Puerto Rico should be used by the Navy for target practice! Just think, if we had shed Puerto Rico years ago AOC would not be in the House today.
“The Dems on that Island are enemies of the United States”
Who else is there there? Communists?
look to the florida voting rolls....
Oh, please. AOC is not even from PR. She’s a New Yorker.
And yes, I’ve heard your sales meeting story many times.
It's another LIE for political gain.
i understand. I know that. and I think that’s what I said. Many left the island and mostly landed in Florida...I guess I made a poor joke.
The report was a WAG based on some one at a George Washington University school’s algorithm.
The island was in ruins, government in disarray and yet Milkin was able to get accurate documents and statistics ?
The report admitted it couldn’t reconcile the deaths with those who had left the island.
Though they tried.
and that’s verses a Harvard study that says deaths are between 800-8500.
This will make your head explode.
Me and the wife visited PR before our kids and we had a great time went to CULEBRA and VALIEQUES and I paddled her around my little boat and went to old San Juan and had a great time ! El Junque. the rainforest up at the top of the island is pretty cool too
Forget the politics. Enjoy the Caribbean !
This very late in the game to be making this decision. Very slow to get to this point.
“And yes, Ive heard your sales meeting story many times.”
The truth about Puerto Rico bears repeating. It has been, and continues to be an ungrateful stone around the American Taxpayers neck! We got a bad deal when we took on Puerto Rico from the Spaniards, but again back when we did that, it might have had some military significance, but that’s long gone.
As for AOC:
(she looks Puerto Rican to me, and she proclaims herself to be Puerto Rican)
Ocasio-Cortez was born in The Bronx, New York City, on October 13, 1989, to Blanca Ocasio-Cortez (née Cortez) and Sergio Ocasio in a Catholic family. She has a younger brother, Gabriel Ocasio-Cortez. Her father was born in the Bronx to a Puerto Rican family and became an architect; her mother was born in Puerto Rico.
from what I remember about Puerto Rico, they can have those structure rebuilt in about a week, Including siesta time built in.
